well are we having a skill tournament or a rock paper scissors tournament?

on luck, luck will always be a factor regardless of what you do. However, you can minimize it, and I don't see why you wouldn't when it can be something as easy as saying "ok 1v1s have to be the same class against each other"

I think we should do best 2 out of 3, with each of those matches being 1 class only and each match being a different class. At the beginning of a set, both players take turns striking out the classes they DON'T want to play as until they only get 3.

Ex:

I pick Spy
Other dude picks Sniper
...
We keep picking until it narrows down to 3 classes that either of us may have some skill in.

just an idea

Spy can beat Pyro as long as he doesn't get flamed first. After that he truly is screwed.

Heavy can beat Scout if he can use Natasha right.

Anybody can beat Demoman if they get up close (not many demomen can aim nades for bodyshots).

It's somewhat like rock-paper-scissors but they have a slim chance to fight back.

I tried suggesting that some time ago but yeah, skill differences. In the end it will all come down to good/bad luck and skill no matter the classes, anyways.

p.s. congrats Lupo

I dunno, when Phage and I fought the only class I particularly had trouble taking down was Pyro. Though, it wasn't the fact it was Pyro, moreso that I got a little too excited and kept charging in (which is a bad idea up against the dominating close range class)

I didn't have too much trouble fighting him when he played other classes and any losses I had were perfectly fair losses. The only class I can't say much about is Heavy, because he only played against me with it in a single round in which I also charged in a bit excitedly and didn't think things through, which ended up getting me mowed down with natascha.

sounds just about like any kind of tournament that has varying characters/classes/whatever

I like the best 2 out of 3 thing, and y'know, I think I should get rid of the "one class only" deal if we do it that way.

i kinda agree with what valve did for the rifle and huntsman hitboxes though, considering its easier to dodge arrows

tbh I find the huntsman hitboxes semi-logical

It's more of a gameplay aesthetic thing than realism I guess?

Yeah I mean TF2 throws realism out the window 80% of the time, in a good way.

well with tf2 it seems like Valve wants gameplay to be more important than realism, judging from even the most basic things like character designs.

sandwich cures bullet holes

getting hit with a rocket will still let you run and jump normally

paper masks trick enemies

you can carry a minigun and a shotgun easily

you can doublejump in midair

Spy can beat Pyro as long as he doesn't get flamed first. After that he truly is screwed.

Anybody can beat Demoman if they get up close (not many demomen can aim nades for bodyshots).

It's somewhat like rock-paper-scissors but they have a slim chance to fight back.

and I think a better response to this than "exactly" is,

do you want a tournament based on skill with a bit of luck or a tournament based on luck with a bit of skill? I don't know what you guys want- I probably won't be playing in it anyway!- but I'm just trying to suggest what I think would be the most fair- doesn't matter to me either way what you guys decide to do.
