Agreed, I enjoyed it more than the other updates perhaps because it meant there was no specific class being rushed with and spammed in an attempt to use weapons/do achievements. The hats weren't really that good of an update themselves as the drop rate was so low, but the addition of KOTH, CTF Sawmill and the gameplay changes provided a good distraction for a long time.

As Lupo said though, the random drops system was sheer horror, and ruined the game until they gave out the milestones.

The only two weapons I like from the update are Jarate and the Cloak and Dagger. Jarate was a nice way for snipers to be more involved with their team and the cloak and dagger enhanced an already possible play style for the spy.

The Dead Ringer is just another annoyance and mild unbalance to the game, it promotes direct combat for the spy which he just isn't intended for. When I'm killed by the huntsman or ambassador I always feel I was cheated out of being alive. To quote the tf2 blog:

'Our starting theory was that, for death to be a positive experience, players had to feel like they could have avoided dying if they'd done something different'

Which I can honestly say never happens when I'm killed by either of the weapon mentioned. Maybe that's just me though.

Also the razorback was disappointing, not necessarily bad but I would've much preferred a melee weapons replacement.

Yeah, ambassador encourages the spy to pick his shots carefully.

Huntsman, however, I can agree with, even though I love using it. When I can spam arrows into the distance and randomly get a kill something's wrong.

If the huntsman was less "accurate" it would be a much better weapon.

The purpose of the dead ringer is to allow the spy to sneak behind enemy lines easier, not engage in direct combat :s

Sneak behind enemy lines easier? You mean like the other two watches?

On the whole ambassador thing, Regular kills from it are fine. Headshots however. are not. The way it was described on the update page actually made me believe they'd changed it last minute before release. I got the idea it would reward those for being accurate by doing more damage, yet if you missed you'd have to pay the price of time.

even though the current ambassador does still work similarly to that, 99% of headshots are due to luck and lag compensation.

No, you just run right up to where the enemies are and active it

damage reduction really helps when you're walking right in the line of fire(unless the line is literally of fire)

the other watches require you to sneak around the sides

Out of Interest, was there a definitive consequence settled for the GRU, or not? I seem to remember there was a version which drained 6 health when you had it out, one that did reduced damage, and one which did damage to you whether or not you had it readied (which would be silly as it'd encourage heavymedicing moreso for a weapon that is designed for the heavy to be versatile in melee, in which case he'd just use the KGB aided by a medic).

The initial release was absolute hell. Remember when spies could headshot your legs? And the sandman/FAN were bad until the most recent update for them. Of course as a career scout you'll disagree but for anyone else that doesn't main Scout and liked to be ubered and mobile at the same time, it was p. rough.
