oh wait we went from 490~510 to 90~120 after robby was kicked. sorry, but i think i'll stick with the implied causality i witnessed.

then why was it whenever robby shut up while he was still on the serv the pings dropped from 600 to ~100 when he was endlessly holding down the voice button and yelling into it and then shot back up whenever he did it again for a long time

and then it stayed consistent after i kicked him off

are you saying voice chat kept the connection busy?

Yes voice chat does put an extra load on the server, but it shouldn't make any dramatic changes. It doesn't matter who sends the voice packets, they'll put the same load on the server.
