Super Princess Peach 2: Darkness of Doom
Official MFGG Development Topic

Description
This thread is to keep you informed about the latest changes/updates to the Super Princess Peach 2: Darkness of Doom Project.

Story Line
One gloomy night, when the rain was bucketing down and the wind was blowing and knocking things about, the two plumbers Mario and Luigi where walking coming back from their training route when they both tripped on a cleverly hidden wire, and went head first into a pitch-dark hole which had been dug a few hours ago. It lead to Bowser's underground prison, which some Bowser Juniors were cleaning out.

One of the Bowser Juniors grabbed his pocket two-way (aka walkie takie) from under his shell and muttered something into it while the others exchanged secret smiles. Mario and Luigi both looked at each other, and shrugged. Soon after, they heard the thundering footsteps of Bowser coming down the stairs, and saw him enter the underground room.

Bowser was surprised that his plan worked perfectly. Instead of capturing them and caging them, Bowser would hold them hostage and a fee of 10,000 coins to release them would be enough to satisfy his evil plan. He told a Bowser Junior to write a letter to the royal Princess Peach, demanding her of paying the 10,000 Coin Fee if she was going to see them again, and show up with the amount of coins by tomorrow outside Bowser's Castle. (Of course, we know that Bowser was going to kidnap Peach again with this plan of meeting her outside his castle.)

The next morning, it was a sunny morning. Peach woke up early, and noticed the beds in the room where the Mario Bros slept where untouched. Something must be a-miss. Peach put her dress on, and slightly sleepy, walked out to the kitchen section of her castle. On the way, she checked the "Guests" room. In there, Daisy was sleeping away as she was resting after her big adventure kicking Bowser's scaly behind (remember Princess Daisy Forever?) which pushed her to the limits. Peach continued onwards to the kitchen, when a Toad came in when the mail. He was holding a letter for her, which she gently took from him, and opened after sitting down at the table while one of the Toad Chefs served her daily breakfast to her. Peach, while eating her toast, quietly read the letter to herself, and choked on the piece of toast she was eating.

10,000 Coins?!? That's overkill for a fee to rescue the plumbers. After Peach had finished her breakfast, she thanked the Toad Chef, and proceeded to get ready for her adventure. On the way to her bedroom, which was located on the other side of the big door with the image a Power Star on it, Daisy was just leaving the "Guests" room to go down to have her breakfast. She smiled and nodded, which Peach did the same to her. She stopped when she reached the Mario Bros. Room, and for the fun of it, rescue them while wearing Mario's overalls. She took a pair to her bedroom, changed into them, got ready for her adventure and packed a few things like her Pocket PC into her pockets, and exited and locked her room. She proceeded to go downstairs and leave the castle, waving good bye in the process. Most of the Toads wished her good luck for her safe adventure, and she glanced at Daisy, who was reading a copy of the weekly newspaper while her breakfast was being cooked.

After she left the castle's glass doors, she was serious that she was going to kick Bowser's behind again after being locked up for all those years. And so, she set off.

I don't like the sounds when Peach hits the blocks.
Also, I've made the experience that naming a fan-game after an already existing game (SPP) isn't a good idea.
You could remove the "2", because then it would not suggest that this game is some kind of official sequel.

Worldmap also doesn't seem to work correctly, as peach can move around on one space (like 2 pixels).

Other than that: Speed, graphics, controls = fine (so far).
Good luck with further development of this title.

The hit block sound, Guinea, is a hit block sound of Super Mario Allstars (ripped by Trasher). As for the '2' on the logo, I'll remove it by the next beta.

Please keep checking back! I don't want to bump a dead topic when others are so long, like 5 pages or 40 Pages.

I guess I wasn't clear about the block sound. ^_^
Sure, it's a rip from SMAS, but it has some crispy background that disturbs and hurts my ears. You could try to find one that's clearer or go down with its volume.

Crispy sound? Ah, I know. I had "Compress Sounds" enabled when I built the game. That what it is. Added to the minor fix list.

It was pretty good but the sounds are really choppy.
And the map movement is flawed.

I actually don't mind using official titles; heck, I have a fangame idea that would use the Super Princess Peach materials too! But you are right in terms of using a "number", for it wouldn't make sense in terms of fangame production.

In short, if I were to do the fangame right now, the title would be: "Super Princess Peach: [insert fangame title here]"

Of course, the fangame itself has to be completely original in order to "pass". wink.gif

Thanks, M.C. Productions.

The map system is quite flawed, as I whipped it up quickly as I was rushed for time to download a working map system off MFGG (due to my mum to kicking me off the net, >_>). I'll look at the coding and see if I can improve it.

If anyone can help me with the map system, as in fixing it (I use detectors, BTW), please PM me. I'm kinda stuck.

Anyway, I should have the first offical beta out in the next week sometime.

Sorry to bump, but last night I uploaded 4-6 snapshots of the game, including a bonus level and debug mode. Enjoy!

How can I put it without flaming? This is just.. not very good.
Here, I'll list every bug, glitch and annoying thing I found:
The Options screen doesn't work.
Peach looks like she accidentally put on someone else's clothes.
Movement engine has awful physics.
You can walk on the ground corners as if they were slopes.
Detectors for everything (pipes, flagpole, and more) are visible.
Peach moves too fast. (Is that even Peach?)
Question block animation is too fast.
Map movement is just weird.
Walking down slopes (such as in the pipe level) feels bad.
Game crashes after going into the pipe.
Spelling mistake "Seziures" in first screen.
Music in "TEST LEVEL" suddenly turning extremely bad quality.
Possible to jump over flagpole.
Sprite clashing, as in all your previous games.
