I think she may be some sort of fairy princess that gives you power(becuase on Wikipedia it says Mario STARTS the game with only 3 sections of health and in pictures on IGN it showed Mario with more life so he has to somehow get more life. However in the picture she looked like she had an evil smile, maybe she is the bad girl. That would be kinda new.....

Actually I believe it's been said/known that collecting a Super Mushroom will give Mario more life, similar to the old games.

She's probably the real villain.

Wanna bet she ends up fusing with Bowser during/just before the final battle?

I think she'll be just a character to help good ol' Mario along the way. Her wand could give Mario items on his journey.

Too late.

I see about five possibilities...

1. Her powers over the galaxy or whatever are stolen from Bowser
2. She has some recurring role in a bit of plot.
3. She helps Mario, giving him powers or telling him what happened and/or where to go.
4. She shows up once or twice in the game, and/or stands around doing nothing of much importance(Toadsworth anyone?), and is never heard from again, outside of MFGG sprite competitions... something about her strikes me as not the recurring side game character type, but I can't think of any seemingly major plot character in previous games to compare her to.
5. She turns out to be the final villain in disguise... or if you want to go really out there, Bowser Jr. in a disguise(he turned into a water Mario, who says he didn't find some new gizmo? )

I don't see where all this "new Peach design" thing is coming from, personally.
