Because you god damn people are so stubborn and want to be complicated, I'm gonna lay this on you:

Sprites have to be sprites. They have to have the potential of having more than one frame and thus more than one frame should be included. You should be able to animate it. It has to have a palette that makes sense and isn't insanely large; You can't have a blend of colors, that's not how sprites really work. In a normal game this would increase the memory usage too much. It also looks like crap.

Unless the competition creator calls for a background, tile set or other static images, then these are not allowed.

Sprites also must be yours. That means no recolors or edits.

Also, stop using the word "pixel art" to describe sprites that do not fit in the above category. Sprites ARE pixel art.

As for drawing competitions, like always, pixel art is not allowed in any form unless the competition creator specifically calls for it.

I posted this a few months ago in another thread about it. It should have been over long ago.

So apparently pixel art will never be allowed in comps except if the comp maker for an art comp says so.
Sucks for the pixelartists. :o

A pixel artist can still make sprites.

I'm not a pixel artist or a spriter but I still managed to sprite something to give me that badge

All pixel artists can, with some practice, sprite. All spriters can, with some practice, make pixel art.

I don't see it being hard for a pixel artist to make sprites, after all, like you said, sprites are pixel art.
I think it would be harder for someone that usually sprites small things to make a large PA.

@glukom

I find it easier to make large detailed work...But I can also do smaller work so yeah this kinda sucks for me..But this will make manythings easier for other people in the making of compos and stuff.

Animated GIFs are still allowed to show if the sprite animates smoothly or not, right?

It'd help to post the sprite sheet itself.

Can we please have a clarification on whether edits or recolors should ever be allowed?

My opinion is that neither should. Either way it's taking something made by Nintendo and using part of it in your own entry in a competition, which I think is kind of ridiculous, since it should be your own work.

And I don't think the "people just won't vote for them" excuse really cuts it, since I have seen people vote for edits/recolors before, and if in theory someone with an edit did make the Top 5, it would be unfair to other people whose work was actually all their own.

Endorse. Seriously, I think edits and recolors are ridiculous.

If you didn't make them then they are not yours and thus can not be submitted. That's common sense.

"That means no recolors or edits."
Edits have always been allowed as long as they are edited to a degree that they appear to be custom. Why change this now?

Has the other staff agreed to this rule?

Animation is not required all of the sudden is it? You make it sound like all entries MUST include animation.

I hope not, because all the time we've been doing sprite comps, many people have won with just a single frame. It didn't need to be animated before.
