SPRITE COMPETITIONS - What is allowed?, In a nutshell

Like I already pointed out, it's not fair for people to do only part of the work on their entries but have their entries treated like those of people who did the whole job themselves.

And who the heck cares if they used to be allowed? If something is allowed that causes unfairness to occur, the policy should be changed to not allow it.

If they're edited enough so they're custom then they're ****ing custom

The way you wrote it says that no editing is to be done at all. So I asked about it. Geez, can we just get them moved to the arts board so you're not so cranky about competitions anymore?

I get cranky when people ask common sense questions.

If you edit Megaman into Luigi, and it still looks very much like the Megaman sprite you edited from, then it's an edit. If it looks totally custom and NOT LIKE THE SPRITE YOU EDITED FROM, then it's pretty much no longer that sprite

Yeah, sorry about the stupid question. :X I just thought it was worth asking because some people have been saying edits were allowed, and I hoped to have everything cleared up definitively so that there wouldn't be more controversy.

And I agree with all of them but HEY I've just found an interesting idea to get rid of this discussion:

Why not state in the competition WHAT you want the sprite to be for?
e.g. "Make a Mario sprite sheet for Mario as the playable main character." -> single sprites wouldn't count, and the so-called PA wouldn't count either.
or on the other side: "make a Mario sprite for a Mario player icon" -> requires large-scale one-frame sprites ("PA")

That way it's rather clear what to do or what not to do, and everyone'd be bound to do the same and nobody could whine about "hey you just win cause PA looks better than sprite"

When you state that there is to be no edits at all allowed, then that is what it is assumed that you mean. Asking so that you are clear on the answer should not get you scorned. But whatever, ya know?

I like this idea, and I think I brought something like that up in another thread. In actuality, the creator of the competition has almost full control over what should be submitted.

I'm going to go ahead and vault this. I think it might be a good idea to link to it in sprite comps from now on, but there are too many stickies in the GC right now, and this one's at the bottom.
