I've been working on this game even before i started on super mario surf. the game is a online mmorpg like world of warcraft, runescape, maple story... And has the purpose to make mfggers enjoy the game on a new way.
Well i suppose you want to know when it will be released, right? well i won't tell you the exact date since this will only give me trouble. I would finish faster if i would stop with working on super mario surf, but i'm not sure if stopping super mario surf is worth it. Anyway i'm sure it will be released in around 2008. Also note i need a server but lucky for you guys my computer can be on 24 hours a day sometimes so you can play without the help of a server, that is untill lots of poeple start playing ( but don't worry, if there will be a lot of players online i'm gonna get a server.

message:also i need a fourth specie to take part in the game, because two species will be good and two will be bad

1.story
Bowser has kidnapped peach again, and to prevent peach from escaping he has captured mario, luigi and wario as well. Now the mushroomkingdom is doomed, or not? You can save the mushroom kingdom by training to become strong enough to beat bowser and his minions, but you can't do it alone, but don't worry there will be some other players joining your quest to save the mushroom kingdom!

2.character creation
The first thing you have to do is to create a character, choose between one of the three species: toad, koopa or yoshi. Then create your character like this:

the first arrow lets you change your eye color ( "jacket" with toads ), like this:

Now lets choose a hat shall we? this hat should do:

the third one makes you choose your shoe color:

and now the one beneath lets you chance some characterious detail, lets make it an angry koopa shall we?

And look you have created your character, press okay and then all you have to do is name your character and your ready!

3.the mushroom kingdom
well i would like to post screenshots, but seeing as i'm not ready with the whole map yet and i still have to place all houses i can't, but i promise i will soon enough.
Anyway the mushroom kingdom is the world you play in, it includes all locations off paper mario and paper mario the thousand year door. a few months after the release i might consider to add the beanbean kingdom and "the last shroobs hideout".
A huge world huh, i couldn't agree more. There is also a underground zone where players can attack each other.

4.quests
Offcourse there will be a lot of quests, 40 to be exact. However i'll increase that after the release sometimes. There are two types of quests: single quests and team quests. single quests are quests you can do alone and you don't need help with. team quests will require two or more players to finish.

5.leveling up
This one is simple, all you have to do is battle monsters to gain exp, after you reach enough exp you'll level up.All you have to do then is too choose what stat you can increase, much like in paper mario.

6.communicating
Offcourse since this will be a MMORPG you need to be able to communicate with other players right? well that won't be a problem, all you will have to do is to press the button 'K' and then type your message, and it will be displayed on a chatmenu below. But this will be in a fixed area, so poeple far away won't read your message and the chatbox won't get overflowed.

This sounds like the kind of epic project I'd like to be involved in. The only thing I don't like is the placement of the arrows. It would make more sense if the bottom arrow that changes facial expression was the second arrow, while the shoe color arrow was on the bottom. It just makes more sense intuitively.


And while the Partners in Time graphics are beautiful and will amplify the awesome, I see a problem in creating any possible new tilesets without seriously heavy artwork being done. You'd almost need to handpaint entire new rooms/tilesets. If I wasn't so bogged down by other stuff, I'd offer my assistance.

well i suppose it won't be hard for me to change the place of the arrows. Also i think i'll use the original m&l tilesets, because they fit the style( and there are no m&l:2 tilesets yet.
Also i got a graphical artist goomba x who will help making the m&l:2 sprites, so almost all enemies can be put in.

If you need any help with MLSS tilesets, I think I've been mapping and ripping them enough to have a good idea of the style. I'll be glad to help if I'm not too busy.

Is it only possible to change the SHOE color for Koopas? Isn't it supposed to be the same color from their sheel?

Also, i don't agree too much with Koopas having hats, because HARMMER BRO and KOOPA TROOPA are different characters. You could make an acessory instead, like Koops from Paper Mario.
After that make another race for Hammer/Boomerang/Fire/Sumo Bros. (or each one separateadly, it would be like different classes).

Any way you do it, i just don't agree making Koopas and Hammer Bros. the exact same classes.

I'm thinking a Shy Guy would make a good second bad species. They could use slingshots and such, and similar sorts of stuff. Might have to use edited sprites, seeing as the closest thing in MLSS is a Chuck Guy, unless you use a Downgraded MLPT Shy Guy.

Well i can't include all races.., the hat is just an accesoire, you got 10 hats/glasses to choose from, the hammer helmet is just an example. you can also choose a robin hat, a bandana, a tricorn, cool sunglassen, nurdy glasses, cowboy hat, a cap, a wizard hat and a mining hat.

Wow, for once, someone's actually putting effort into making a decent Mario MMORPG instead of just making a chat mmo where everyone looks identical, and uses graphics from about 10 different Mario games.

So i think it would be rad to have something like this:


Toad: The main, all-around character, it would have a good choice of weapons and skills for buy/learn.

Hammer Bro: Could be the axe/sword/hammer based close-ranged fighters. After some experience, it would be able to upgrade to the Boomerang or the Fire bro. classes, which he can use boomerangs or spit fire. The last class would be the SPP's Elite Bro.

Koopa: They would use their shell-based attacks to boost speed and turn out to be the fastest class in the game. After some levels the player would be able to upgrade to the Paratroopa class and fly around, or into a Dry Bones, which has a very large defense stat.

Yoshi: It would be able to do many things with his toungue, just like an acrobat. Yoshi could get wings as an item, allowing him to fly, but not for unlimited time like the Koopas.

Shy Guy: They would have toy-based weapons and some useful techniques. They also would be able to fly as the Fly Guy upgraded class, or upgrade into another classes like the Fire Guy, Gourmet Guy, etc.



I think there's plenty characters. But you could add some more, like, for example:


Magikoopa: This is exactly the same as the MMORPG's mages. It would have a good "magic" defense, just like any other mage, and heavy magic-based attacks and techniques.

Bandits: Spy/Thieft attacks and techniques are the key with this class.

Lakitu: The assist-like character would be able to fly from the start, but his throw-spinies-based attacks are the worst in the game, so he would be the assist class in the game, that helps other characters in his party/guild with skills and such. Upgrades to NSMB's Lighting or anything-else Lakitu.

Boo (very maybe): They would use hide and scare abilities/techniques against enemies. Nothing very special.

etc!



So, do you liked it? If you don't know what each character would make in your game, feel free to use these ideas.

Shy Guy would probably be your best bet for a second bad race, Goombas probably not due to being armless.

The game is not really turn based, there will be a stat ( spd ) that determines how fast you attack.
