10-year-old comits suicide after gaming ban

Already heard about it. Just....sad.

And of course, parents will blame said computer instead of themselves.

It's noone's fault but the kid's own. If he decided to slack off, it's his fault. If he decided hide the teacher's notes and then kill himself when that didn't work instead of owning up to what he did, it is also his fault.

The fact that a computer was involved is of no consequence. Back in the day, he would have done this if he had been grounded from his bike, and I've heard several cases where a teenager had killed themselves because they couldn't see thier boyfriend/girlfriend.

If the parents are to blame at all, it is because they were not making sure he was doing his work, which they shouldn't have to if the child is 10 years old. They may have also failed to clearly convey what death is, which is why the child thought it was okay to take this step.

Wow, this is just awful.

Yea, damn parents and their parental controls. They should have cared for the kid less.

What if he was trying to sneak out of his bedroom window and slipped, or misjudged his jump?

Actually that does sound kind of plausible, he may have been running away from home or something.

EDIT: It's a 19 story drop. No 10 year old would be stupid like that to run away in such a process and expect to live.

So yeah that's pretty idiotic.

Obviously the purpose of this article was to take a stance on videogames affecting children, so I doubt we'll know much more on the details of how he died.

Talk about sad. But that was a stupid thing for the kid to do, couldn't he just wait out the ban like all other kids do?

Serves that little idiot right. He ****ed up in school and got his games taken away. He wanted to kill himself over losing them (for what, only one marking period?), then that's his damn problem.

Sucks, especially considering that saying he was thinking about suicide would have made the message clear.

I basically agree with the stuff that Madam Ki said.

It's possible, though, that the parents may also have had a share in the blame if they hadn't punished the kid enough for bad behavior in the past (i.e., if they'd spoiled him up to that point).
