Help forum complains

Ok, i'm gonna confess something:

I just HATE the help forum. And i know there's a lot of people who also do.


And you know why? Because there's no reason at all for people gets in the Help topic like "umm i'm going to see if someone needs help", because that DOESN'T happens AT ALL! And the main problem with this is the billion bumps the people do there so actually someone can see their topic by the Forum index instead of needing to get in there and see it.

Because of that, i shouldn't, but some rare times i ask for help in the PPP. And, actually, i get more help there than if i posted in the Help forum! PPP is obviously crowded place, and so people actually see you Help topic in there, instead of the almost-dead Help forum. Even if the PPP is designed for pointless posts, people helps people with trouble there even more they would in the Help section, which kinda destroy the idea that a help topic in the PPP get lots of spam or flood.


Please, i know only my complains will not change nothing in this, but isn't there a way to make the help system more accurate? the Help forum is rarely seem by any member, and posting a help topic in the PPP is nothing that would worth you a ban.
If you want my opinion, i think the help forum should just merge into PPP, because the place is a lot more popular and people would actually see your topic; but anything else that comes to work better could be used too.

Please guys, think about this. We can't just have a sector designed for help if actually no ones get any help there at all.

But if the help forum merges into the POINTLESS post palace, would there just be a load of silly posts in it?
Also I think that some members [like my brother] look in there quite a lot to help people.

I think you mistake "People not helping because they can't be bothered" with "People not helping because they physically can't".

I'll admit I'm not that active in the help forum, but at the same time more than half the topics I can't help with because a lot of the time it's related to stuff like GameMaker or whatever.

And a Help > PPP merge would prove nothing. Help > GC merge would be a better choice but still pointless.

Yeah, merging into the General Chat would be awesome.

The help forum is active enough to have a point to be separated. In PPP they either get spammed or bumped away in mere hours. Most people don't help because they physically can't. I check the Help forum quite frequently and help, if I can.

What I hate is, how some people post those "can you transparent/animate this plz" threads. They can do that stuff on their own by just downloading and using ANY free gif animator.

Eh, I admit that I often forget that the help forum is even there (except when I need help with something).

I'm not really good with any fangaming help questions, other than for the few slightly more noobish people than me. If you got a problem with Windows in general, then I'm your man. I've clocked up more than enough hours fixing Bill Gates' wondeful invention.

It's not "almost dead" in the least. People make topics there not that much less than they do in the GC. Yeah, they get less replies, but just because people don't (or can't) help with certain things, doesn't mean the forum is a bad idea in theory. And a lot of people actually do get help there, so it's useful in more than theory.

Nonsense. People often view and post in Help topics. You are at least way overstating your case here.

Because a forum for getting help has something in common regarding purpose with a forum for pointless, off-topic posts. Yep. Right.

Do I even need to comment on this? Just look in the Help forum. You can see quite a few "solved" threads if you just look around a bit.


In short, this complaint seems singularly unfounded.

I used to attempt to help in the help forum but anything I could help with was already solved and what was left was things I'm not very good at.

A lot of times there's also custom sprite sheet requests and I simply don't have the time to assist and haven't learned much about animation just yet.

I would be in favour of banning for bumping a topic still on page 1, especially in the first hour/ six minutes.

People usually don't help because there are a lot of gamemaking questions on there, like help with coding, and most of the members can't help with that. And also there are lots of request for making sprites, and nobody likes those.

Actually, Xgoff has pretty much saved my ass every time i get stuck with MMF2... people still help, is what i am getting at, all it takes is patience.

Actually, that DOES happens AT ALL. You just don't notice it.

And there aren't a lot of people that hate the forum. You're in the minority sorry

Really the help forums gets more attention than you'd tihnk.
sorry I'm ranting now but I get responses in the help forum at least after the first 5 minutes of posting my topic.
If it becomes a problem, it's not yet a crime to link your help topic in a new topic in the ppp.
Just do that duh!
