I just started on the first world (Jail doesn't count as a world) and let me say, you guys are gonna like this. Although I think the second world will be the best in the entire game. That is unless I manage to somehow have my wishes granted for world 12, then that would be the most epic. What is world 12? That is a looooooong ways away guys. Anyway, just thought I'd keep this alive This post has been edited by King Razz on Dec 5 2007, 10:10 PM

Really awesome game, Razz, it's really a good translation of the kind of stuff you see in 3D, but pulled off in 2D. Except for the whole jumping into walls thing. Save that for LoZ Dungeon 9. But, if you want in, keep it. The stars don't look that great, but the Dream Orbs are probably gonna be just fine. Are they gonna look something like orbs from the Mario Party games? 'Cause that's what I've been thinking since I first heard of the concept.
Adventure Fields are looking good, but I wouldn't put too much into them. A few (generous) jumps if you really need to, but I'd suggest keeping the game more to the Orb collecting.
Finally, and you don't have to answer this, but what do we get when we get all the Dream Orbs?

That is a really nice response ... I don't know what to say | QUOTE | | Except for the whole jumping into walls thing. Save that for LoZ Dungeon 9. But, if you want in, keep it. |
I'll keep it in, but don't expect to see to much of it. I just wanted something to distract the player without revealing too much of the game. I may add better hints as to where the secret passages are in the full game.

The orbs are currently in thier beta state, so they honestly don't look that good, but later on I plan to add more detail to them. They work exactly the same as stars, just graphically changed to fit the story better, and to kinda shake things up a bit | QUOTE | | Adventure Fields are looking good, but I wouldn't put too much into them. Don't worry, I plan to keep this very basic.

Do you want me to answer that? Do you REALLY want me to answer that? Fine - Spoilers: WAIT UNTIL THE GAME IS FINISHED! |

| QUOTE (danster724 @ Dec 6 2007, 01:54 AM) | AMAZING but I don't understand why you used such old sprites if you redid it with updated sprites than it could potentially be one of the greatest (and most original) mario fangames on this whole frickin website I hope to see more awesomeness from this project... |
All sprites except for the koopas, goombas, and mario's were made by me. They were edited versions of the original SMB sprites, I did the eyes, toads, and other enemies all by myself. I understand though, the bricks in the jail do hold a mighty resemblance to the SMB bricks. Also, thanks for the comment, and I'm glad you like it This post has been edited by King Razz on Dec 6 2007, 11:12 PM

I thought I'd do a small screenshot drive, just to show off a couple of things. In this drive you will see images of the new star or "orb" screen, the adventure field, the newest level, Dank Dark Docks, and a few other things aswell. Take it all in (fyi, the current demo status is 15%, but progress will start to really speed up now that I am working on it again) enjoy these images [dohtml]

This is the start screen. Rather bland, but I think it does the job rather well without really revealing anything overly-important about the game. Notice the simplicity of it, and the "bubbly" items behind the "M" in "Mario". This is actually a very clever hint as to what the game is about. In fact, once you finish the game, you may end up laughing out loud due to the directness of this rather elusive hint.

This is an average cut scene, nothing special. The text is not very informative, considering I stated earlier in this topic that the game is now all about a dream from which mario can not awaken. Wait, did I post that? Oops, I guess it just "slipped" out. My bad.

This, as you may have guessed, is the new "orb" select screen. The new style is very sleek, and notice that instead of using the arrow keys, you select the orbs with your mouse. When you slide over an orb with the mouse, the name of the mission appears at the bottom, and the size of the orb doubles. You may notice that there are four orbs. Yes, that means each level, or world, has 5 orbs in it. What? Five? Yeah, see the cloud at the top left? That represents a "dream". A "dream" is a mission that you've previously done, but with a strange tweak added in. Such as, the level is really, really fast (My old beta testers may no what I'm talking about) or very dark, or you only have one hp, or enemies do double damage, or -- well, you get the idea. Note that the fourth orb of a world is a secret orb, found by special means, and the crown at the top right, is just a sign that you've completed the level 100%. There may be more to it, but who am I to spoil the game for you?

This is the adventure field. Where is it, you may ask? It it in mario's mind. There are going to be *insert random number here* parts of the brain, including *insert another random number here* worlds in each part of the brain. As you may be wondering, why are there other marios located here? A glitch? Nah, it's just a clever metaphor to convey the abstract concept of thought. The door at the bottom is a warp to the second world, and the number on it represents the amount of orbs needed to enter. Pretty snazzy huh? Also, yes, I accidentally showed off the new mario sprite. Eh, oh well, it's badass aint it?

For a time people referred to this guy as, "Hey! It's that walls can be sexy too guy!" In fact, people still do. This guy is so badass I have decided to make him the official mascot of the game, and he will be referred to, from now on, as sexy eyes. Everyone loves this guy. Also, if your wondering what he's saying in the pic, you're gonna have to zoom in. If you don't need to zoom in, you either have unnaturally healthy eyes, or your resolution is too low.

The mission select room for world 2. Nothing special really. The only thing of note is the orb being transparent. It becomes solid once you collect the orb that in the mission, then the orb in the mission turns transparent, as the one in the select screen turns solid. Logical huh?

Your first look at Dank Dark Docks, a level that I'm having a blast making. As you may notice, the place is very foggy. This changes the closer you get to ground level, in which the fog disappears completely. I remember some members finding this unrealistic *cough*pucifer*cough* so I just thought I'd piss them off even more by telling them that this will be a constant throughout the entire level.

The lower area of the docks, a very marshy place filled with marsh loving goombas. Theres really nothing else I can say about this image. Enjoy it, along with a few others that I can't really describe with words:

[/dohtml] And that's about it. Honestly, I'm beat. I need to chillax for a while ... that was waaay to much typing. Anyway, please post some opinions if you feel so inclined.

Reading through this topic has sorta given me a blast from the past. Damn, you guys have changed so much (Including me) The main reason I am bumping this topic is A.) to get more love for this game even though I know the demo is starting to get really old, and B.) because I want to do something special. This "special thing" is a little skit I call, the fake interview. Hahahahahaha laugh if you must but I thought it would be fun; and if you are starting to question my sanity, let me, and the interviewer Who's fake btw do the talking. Or interviewing, or whatever. Official fake interview(The answers are true, but by fake I mean that someone didn't really interview me.) Q: Let's start with a question that I'm sure all of us want to know. When will you release the next demo? And what do you have so far? A: Well technically that's two questions but I'll answer them nonetheless. The next demo will be released soon. And by soon I mean it could end up being released tomorrow, or next year. It all depends on my laziness. As for your other question, the game has quite a lot packed into it so far. I have the first two worlds done, a total of 35 orbs, 3 keys (hurhur that's a secret hurhur), and almost 8 new enemies. I also have 6 bosses, and tons of secrets already added in. I'm currently starting on the "bowser" type level for the three worlds, which is kinda fun. It has proven to be a blast to make so far. i think you will be pleased when the next demo is released :) Q: While we're on the topic of bosses, do you feel comfortable discussing what has been done so far? Any comments on their design? A: To be honest bosses aren't really my cup of tea, so they've been a pain for me to program. Nonetheless, I assure you, the bosses are gonna be pretty epic in this game. I don't really feel comfortable telling you guys anything about them however, for the bosses are a key part of the story. Q: One of the things that hooked me to the demo was it's memorable characters. Any comments on future characters? A: Characters (Especially memorable ones) are some of my favorite parts of a game. They really bring the story together, and frankly, without good characters, a game isn't worth playing at all. Unlike sm64, this game is gonna have characters that appear and reappear within missions, and some of them I'm quite attached to. So attached to in fact, that I almost cried when I had to turn one of them evil. Yes, this game has a story. A story that's a million times more complex than I originally planned for it to be. Q: How about that story. Any comments? A: The story is coming along nicely. That's all I'll say. Q: Would you like to mention anything about the game's future levels and missions? This is something I really want answered, and I'm sure most of us would like a legit answer for once. That means answer without attempting to slither out of answering the real question. A: Well hohoho then. On a serious note however, I do feel comfortable disclosing info about the first three levels. Spoiler alert! Spoilers: | The first level, still named Jail, is gonna be a "special-visit" type location. You won't be able to return there until much later in the game, which is surprisingly difficult to program and plan because I did pretty much the entire Jail level before I even started on the main part of the game. It'll work in the final game though so don't worry. |
Spoilers: | The second level, dank dark docks has been rather elusive lately, for some reason a lot of people have taken a great liking to the levels name (DDD is a cool abbreviation) although I have to admit the name confuses even me sometimes. The premises of the level is that the entire docks was once inhabited by a small village of "light" boos. They were happy for a long time, but out of nowhere a tribe of "dark" boos came and attacked the "light" boos. The "dark" boos won the battle and cursed the "light" boos in an eternal rest rest, doomed to watch the town they once loved decay before their eyes. It is said the curse can only be lifted by a plumber by the name of mario ... |
Spoilers: | I'd prefer to keep the third level secret thank you very much :) | Q: Any closing comments? A: That was a hella short interview. Thank you for your time however. IMPORTANT READ THIS NOWNow here's the real reason why I made this. I want you guys to submit questions about MED that you want me to answer. You can post your questions in this topic, or pm them to me. Either way, at the end of this month I'll go through all the questions, and choose ten that I find to be the most educating, and I'll answer them in this topic! Start submitting!
