With Phage making the graphics, and me making the game itself, this is BOUND to be good.

Currently it's at an engine test state, and new things will be added as Phage makes them.


But for now: a basic engine test with basic movement, Goombas, and one-way platforms.
here
Z runs, X jumps. You can duck, too. Jump while ducking on a one-way platform to go down through it.

i swear that is like super pretty.

havn't downloaded cuz my macintosh can't play them fangames. Might download one when it is prettier.

There's no health because I'm not sure how it's going to look because Phage hasn't made it yet!

You can move left and right on the go-through platforms while holding down.

Uhm.

While ducking on the jump-throughs, I found I could move around.

I even could move off them and glide on the solid ground.

Other than that pretty cool.

A bit glitchy, but still good overall.


-Mario sometimes gets stuck on the upper corners of blocks when falling down and toward them. If you're using solid objects, I might know somewhat why this is happening, and it's one of the reasons I don't use solid objects in my games.

-The collisions could use improvement, since he often doesn't actually touch the blocks, and he usually can't fit vertically through 1-block-wide spaces (and I don't think he can fit horizontally through 1-block-tall spaces even when ducking, either). I don't think Mario's mask size is causing that. I'm guessing it might have to do with either the use of solid objects, or lack of code to make Mario "scoot up" to walls and ceilings when he collides with them, or both.

-Perhaps Mario should start coming right back down when he hits his head on a block from below. Right now he can kind of slide along ceilings for a brief moment when he does a running jump up against them, and move horizontally in the air briefly if he comes out from under them just after hitting them.

-The friction could probably be decreased so that Mario slides a little bit more and can't change direction quite so instantly.

-Yeah I noticed that a little bit earlier. Don't blame solid objects, solid objects have nothing to do with it. Will fix.

-Yeah I thought I fixed that too but apparently not. God damn.

-Oops.

-You might have been too low to be at a point that the game will recognize as an attack.



-Yeah ducking won't get you anywhere because Mario doesn't slide far enough for it to be useful at all so it's kinda just...There.

-Yeah I noticed that too and it's fixed right now. Not in the current test though.

-However, if the friction goes anywhere below 1 then Mario gets all scrunched up and I'd rather have high friction then a scrunched-up Mario.

One problem I've been running into: Sometimes I can make it so that no collisions occur with the goombas except when I jump on them. It might have to do with the timer to turn off invincibilty; just look into it pls :[

Also I wanna see Koopas.
