Ever notice how ever since Nintendo made Pikmin, they've gone out of their way to have as many of one creature as possible on the screen at one time in their games? Paper Mario 2 especially has a bunch of cases like this. The X-Nauts at the beginning. The Punies (which were a lot like Pikmin following Olimar XD). The various "matrix" hammering sequences. What is with Nintendo and putting huge crowds of things on screen at once? Just because they can? Or do they think they can sell more Gamecubes by showing off the processing power to have so much stuff going on at once? =P

yeah, that is a good point, but i personally think that it just is done to look pretty or cool. if this was a normal 3d game with all of those million-polygon figures, the game will slow down waaaaaaaay too mutch

I just think Nintendo always wanted to MASS things like enemies to make it ridiculous-looking but they were never able to do it without lag. As long as there's no lag, I'm down with it.

Due to the fact the game uses simpler flat textured polygons or 2D sprites(or a mix) they can have lots on the screen with little to no lag, therefor allowing them to abuse it, both for making things look impressive and for comical reasons, as well as things like plot devices such as the beginning. I've noticed a small bit of lag afew times in the game, but not much.

Spoilers:
Like blowing away the posters in front of the door in the Riverside place, even though it was only afew, they either had alot of polygons to allow lots of flowyness or they used several different running morphing things. Also, when entering battle and pausing too I think, while having lots of Punies on the screen.

@Someguy: We all knew that. :O All the character graphics are flat squares with the sprites mapped to them as textures, you can tell because if they were just sprites, they'd have a grand time making them zoom in and out with the camera as well as the rotation. Plus, they smooth out when they're resized.

During the whole bit with the Punies, I kept pressing the B button to try and make the whistle blow so I could call them all to me.

I had beaten Pikmin 2 a few days before. :D

That would be awesome.
