In order to allow a discussion on this topic, have any of you had much experience programming?

"Programming" here means "Using a language that calculates data *before* sending any output".

Stuff that's not a programming language:

• HTML, which has no variables etc and by itself is the same every time it's sent to a browser
• CSS, same reason

Stuff that is a programming language:

• JavaScript
• Java
• Flash ActionScript
• SSL's (PHP, ASP, Perl)
• BASIC
• Visual Basic
• Python
• C, C++, C#
• ... hell what else is there? machine code?

Hmmmm....nope.

Not really actually, unless GM or GML counts

QBasic, but that's it. I <3 QBasic.

I took a C++ class last year, I know a handful of GML(if it counts), and right now I'm taking VB.

Yeah, I can safely say I have some programming experience.

anyway I'm good with PHP, am taking a class in VB (ew ) and can fumble around in C(++) and javascript to a degree that I can get it to work.

Xcode tools have dragged me into the wonderful world of C++, Java and Python under Cocoa and Win32.
Too bad I don't understand **** besides making Web browser. It's kind of disturbing when everything is so simple you don't understand anything. :<

i started learning javascript last night

though if i was going to learn a more powerful language, i'd probably use one that has automatic memory management

errrr, I know only a little bit of it...I use to know a lot of it in highschool when I was taking classes for it. -What a complete waste to just not use it at all- :<

i might be taught CSS, and i know a little HTML and javascript, but nothing like C++

The only thing you have listed that is a programming language is javascript.

also imo VB should not be considered a real programming language (even though it technically is) simply because the programs you write this year might not work the next if microsoft decides to drop support for it
