Perfect. In this version I had no lag, and Mario jumped without any problems. I like how you threw in some tough jumps near the end. The end get star animation was handled very well, though dunno if the shine was supposed to be black or yellow?

Also, most people hate dumb enemies. Very well designed level. biggrin.gif

INCREDIBLE! Who knows maybe this will lead to lots of 3D games in the future I wish someone did an open source 3D engine think how many 3D games we would have!

Not a lot, because people would be massively confused by the code (not that that would be a bad thing, anyways).

Anyways awesome stuff, can't wait to see more. It would be nice if Mario would actually be able to walk up slopes without having to jump on them, though. And brick blocks need to work better because I can jump at their sides and it'd break. :/

QUOTE (DJ Yoshiman @ Dec 8 2007, 04:59 PM)
But I'm not happy with the fact that as I ran the program, it randomly started decreasing in FPS. By the time it reached 6 (which popped up out of no-where, it suddenly happened as I was crossing the 2 wooden bridges after the stone-platform thing on the gross), I couldn't take it anymore, so I closed the program... which didn't close. So I had to end it's task... about 6 times, with no result until five minutes later, when it finally decided to close, meanwhile, my CPU Usage was in constant 100% during that time.

I just uploaded a new version where some stuff is optimized (also the slope bug is fixed, so Mario can walk up slopes; it was a bug in my wall detection subroutines). The problem was that I was using an unnecessary amount of CPU cycles for each map object, e.g.

CODE

For MapObjs.MapObj=Each MapObj
  If x then do y
Next

For MapObjs.MapObj=EachMapObj
  If z then do a
Next

where it could just have been:

CODE

For MapObjs.MapObj=Each MapObj
  If x then do y
  If z then do a
Next

Maybe you have a crappy graphics card or you don't have DirectX 7 or higher. Other than that, don't really see why that would happen.

EDIT: 5 FPS? It's definitely the graphics card then (or a super-crappy computer).

Also I'd just like to mention that it would be nicer if the music looped. Because if you fool around a little then the music will eventually end. And not play again.

hmm I don't know how it works but you should try to limit the fps to 60 instead of limiting it to the screen frenquency. Because mine runs at 85 hz and the game was also running at 85 fps. Still a bit too fast. The engine is really great though at 60 hz

A new beta is out, click on the banner for more infomations.

An attempt to recreate mario bros 3's engine perfectly with some values taken directly from the rom and it is open source

Give it a try, even if it's open source, the levels are original and fun..

I've started a new topic because the other one died of inactivity. Don't let this one die.

Gameplay Video
Here's the last video, with the original 1-1 level and three new levels

I've seen that problem before with Blitz 3D application. In the cases I've seen something like that happen, it was graphic's card zbuffer not having enough precission to display correctly the world.

By the way, MrGuy, how are you handling collisions for the player entity?

I'm still surprised no one has made a 3D Mario fan game using Blender 3D yet.
