No, you can't. It might be added in at some point to later levels (it would make the first level too easy =P), but I'll have to study the swimming in SM64.

I would think swimming very difficult to implement... then again, I don't know the Blitz Basic series' language very well. I only pretty much know how to create a simple loop in normal Blitz. That's all.

It looks great... I learned with the time to not juge a game by the screenshots so I'd need to see a demo but damn it indeed looks great. I've been waiting forever to see a well done 3d mario fangame.

I think it was remarkable I and if you keep working I think it will be a good game. biggrin.gif

If you could add fire mario and other powerups i will die!

And I don't think you should have and hp bar. you should have a powerup health system like the classic mario games.

The model is actually fully animated; It's just easier to get good screengrabs when Mario is standing still. (To take a screenshot I have a very simple one-line function which takes a shot when you press Shift). The first demo (which will basically be a short engine test level) will probably be released by Christmas.

Also, sorry about not updating as regularly as usual; I'm sleeping over at a friend's house, so even if I had the source and Blitz3D here I wouldn't do anything with it =P

beating a dead horse here but it would be more original to have a classic health system because every 3d mario game has a heath bar.

Except health bars are easier to implement in a 3-D engine than powerups, I believe.

I wouldn't know. I've never used Blitz Basic for anything.

Regarding health bars, i tried a system where instead of having a visible bar, everytime mario took damage his animations would change ie would walk/jog/run with a sag, or hungover looking exhausted.
This would also would affect his speed and jumping but it would cause huge imbalances ie what if a jump became too high or a hill too step to get up etc with no health replenishes in reach you might mess it up.

Also had an idea where mario would become faded with each bit of damage until he turned almost invisible, turning into a ghost dying :-)

Yeah, but just for the fun of it, and because I hated the textures you used(except on wiggler). No offense, though, and I didn't claim it as my own.

I love texturing and finding textures. It's a neat way of discovery and a great time waster.

Whatever happened to that toy town level you planned to make?


If I could, I'd probably mess with textures on this too. Heck, I'd retexture Half Life if I knew how.

I'm releasing a basic engine test demo, because many people want it, and because people want to play it before judging it. Don't expect any revolutionary gameplay yet, though. =P

Engine Test Demp
4.5 MB, due to hi-res textures. Arrow Keys to Move, Space to Jump

The reason Mario falls from the sky when you die and restart the level is because if I don't make him do that he always lands below the ground and falls in the water. This will be fixed in the first demo.

This needs a lot of work on the collisions, respawning, and running.
The running speed seems too slow, it may just be my computer though.
