I do not know if this has been suggested before, but I suggest there should be a debate forum for serious debates about any subject (e.g: for or against abortion), as long as it has order and there is no flaming.

What do you guys think of this kind of forum

Any debate on MFGG, even if it's incredibly calm, always turns into a riot and a flamefest by the end. This board is incapable of having a rational debate, so that isn't the best of ideas. :\

Actually, that's a great idea.

However for general things, so more like a sub forum of GC, because if it had just real life stuff I would likely not be very active in it.

Hmmm, I may have over looked the fact than most of the members are 12.

But those who can't keep it rational should be banned, It is breaking the rules after all. If you can't respect it, you should be banned for it.

Geek Lord: That sounds like a better Idea making it a subforum of GC

Even though I agree with ShadowMan 100%, I still think a trial basis should be given.

Nah, those seem to pop up everywhere, whether we like it or not. As stated in the rules, there's a really good example of a serious debate that was held in the Fangame Discussion, that involved no flaming or any tension between members. I don't think we need a seperate forum to prove we can engage in debates with rational and intelligent manner, we just need to get in that mode more often.

Because that why we'd have a 50/50 chance of an intelligant forum being made and kept.

Correct me if I'm wrong on the 50/50.

I mean for a place designed just to do debates.

Ah.

My answer would still be negative, because we should be able to do that normally in the General Chat.

Yes it's true that we can do it in the genral chat except usually in general chat it never happens, general chat is more of a place to discuss about subjects. While when you debate it is a is a rational, intelligent argument between two sides, this is why I think there should be a specific place for it.

While yes, general chat seems fo the place to do it, thats why Geek Lord's suggestion is more handy, make it a sub forum for general chat.

General Chats on forums should never have sub-forums, due to the sheer native definition of it's name - A general chat. This includes debates. Making a debate topic in a sub-forum dedicated to debates isn't going to change at all from making a debate topic in the GC.

What I mean is the difference between a debate forum and the gc in general.

A normal topic in the GC would be like "What did you do for xmas?" or a topic explaining how there day went and discussing instances that were similar.

Now on the other hand, when you debate it's a serious, structured and rational argument about a subject at hand. (Emphasis on serious)

Topics coming from the GC and Debates are different things.

This is why there should be a place for it so gc topic and debates don't get mixed up.

I'm going to use this topic as why there should be a place for it.

We did what you said we debated rationally in this forum, GC. Yet, some people started going off topic and some people started to flame.

This is my point on why there should have a place for it, a place solely for rational and intelligent arguments where people who go off-topic or start being irrational should just be banned for it.
