I'm going to use this topic as why there should be a place for it.

We did what you said we debated rationally in this forum, GC. Yet, some people started going off topic and some people started to flame.

This is my point on why there should have a place for it, a place solely for rational and intelligent arguments where people who go off-topic or start being irrational should just be banned for it.

Heck yeah. It'll spur me on to flamebait the **** out of it.

Well maybe not me, but people are going to start a abortion topic and that WILL without ANY exceptions end up in a flamefest.

Also another point to those nay sayers for the reason who say Debates always turn into flamefests, etc

Is making a debate guideline so hard to do, explaining what a debate is and how it is done and not done?

Well having a serious, rational argument may be what some like to do, and you look at it as it's a bad thing.

Therefore yes, it is an opinion that you dislike debate forums for that reason, not a fact.
