Because tommy got a skate I got me one too....is this what I see?.
pftt...just go ahead and do it guys, first days could be nice and serious...
Also, this is a pretty stupid idea...I mean is good but there are always debates in any section most of the times and they end up bad...why should we make a section with topics that will get locked for people going nuts or make rules that will keep us from giving our point of view because will get banned for offending others or...dah nevermind...I don't care...I'm happy with the Help and General Chat section.

EDIT:
QUOTE (Baconson @ Nov 24 2007, 08:14 PM)
Just check the topic about a feminists that got locked recently, it proves without people know what a debate is they will go off topic and flame the debate causing it to get locked.

http://archive.mfgg.net/index.php?showtopic=197395 the thread in question.

Great example of what I mean....people can't have a debate they go offtopic or simply start flaming therefor topics will get locked.

So it is impossible, for those who want to debate and have a serious discussion may not have a place?

I really doubt that.

Its just you guys are overlooking the fact that like the CCC if it should come out, it will have set rules for posting in that place. Guaranteed. If not, a debate forum would never work out.

Having a test to see if it would work.
Having it as a sub forum in the GC.
Banning any constant trollers from that specific forum.
Naming it differently.

I think these ideas.

Serious discussion could be done anywhere, is not our fault that members who don't know how to debate start flaming and thanks to them topics get locked...instead of making a new section, the staff should warn/ban these who start flaming or go really offtopic for no reason...I've seen a few members who always spam topics and never get banned and therefor they keep spamming topics which lead to a lock topic.

It can be be made anywhere, but I don't see much of it done. The idea of this forum isn't to promote flamewars, etc. It's to promote serious discussion.

We could have specific requirements for that board so certain people won't be in.

Something like that is hurting MFGG enough already.

...did you read what I posted?...what I mean is that we don't need a specific section...we need harder rules, because some members get offtopic or start flaming and thanks to them topics get locked, now these members(most of them) never get banned...so they go around and spam any topic over and over...
Debates could be done in the general chat section I guess...what we need is rules to warn/ban members who spam and go offtopic...

Those are already against the rules yet people do it oftenly here. Bringing up Geek Lord's point if you cause alot of trouble your are banned from the board itself.

Question.

What's the point of said forum when the debate rules could just as easily be set in place in the GC?

Yeah or they could just as easily be banned from the forums as a whole for being stupid.

It's not like adding another board would be difficult or anything, but I'm fairly sure the administration doesn't want yet another board to moderate.

When the PPP was around, one or two moderators were driven off from it.

History dictates that even if a debate on MFGG starts out in good faith, it dwindles into a whinefest or people posting baseless crap just for the sake of flaunting their egos or sounding tough (which was a majority of the crap from the first six or so pages of the topic you keep referencing). This is not to say that MFGGers aren't capable of handling a debate. They have the mental capacity. Many of them just refuse to employ it.

And then we'd have that silly good-mod, bad-mod crap everyone was ranting about when Joey still modded the place.

Any debate on MFGG, even if it's incredibly calm, always turns into a riot and a flamefest by the end. This board is incapable of having a rational debate, so that isn't the best of ideas. :\

Only by the select portion though. Others aren't so bad.

Thanks for Pointing out what I been trying to say...wait I did say this.
I guess they just want to feel special and have a special debate group...I'm against this debate section idea, but I do support the idea of a punishment for these who spam and flame and never get banned for it.

Yet, A Debate forum wouldn't be a PPP.

What does debating and the PPP have to do with eachother?
