I think you can expect I'll be taking you up on that offer at some point. But first the mirroring system will have to be written. There's some issues that have to be worked out like integrity, security, and keeping the mirror up to date. Already have a plan sketched out .. just need the time.

I realize it had to be done and all, but I think my game was about a day away from finally getting accepted and now it won't until December.

That's okay, though. It wasn't really that good of a game in the first place.

there could be a huge "HOW DO I USE TORRENTS" how-to

i'm sure a good chunk of people who visit the site know how torrents work; something like 25% would be worthwhile

EDIT: hell maybe there can be sort of a "rewards" system for people who torrent more than they download directly from the server

Then I'd have the headache of setting up a tracker. And what are people doing to do with a torrent of 400 fangames. If anything, I could see it as an incentive for even more people to start burning collection discs and start selling them, because collecting the games would take no effort.

forgot about that

too bad there isn't a way to make the games burn incorrectly onto a disc and end up corrupted, though i'd imagine some people create compilation discs for convenience and not to sell...

damn

torrents would be a cool way to distribute things, but it might be trouble with how ISPs are blocking them lately and whatnot.

That and it'd take a while to set up

I could just imagine waiting for a fangame about an hour because of no seeds, then having it turn out to be ****.

MFGG consumes about 2.7 gb. But with thousands of downloads it's the transfer that's killer.

fangames are also trending towards full MP3 soundtracks and whatnot that boost their size to epic proportions. So mirroring is going to be all that much more important.

If the main site had the option built in for people to download from their preferred mirror first, people could post links to zips on Googlepages and what not, thus reducing bandwidth with little effort.

So is there a constant rise in the numbers compared to last year? Because a four point moving average would be a good way to find out, as it takes into account the general rise and fall of holidays and the like. (damn you Maths GCSE!)
