Ah, sorry I misunderstood you. ohmy.gif

Thats okay, I often screw up what I'm trying to say.

Another idea I had, along with a theme (example, Peaches Castle) a situation (or feel, I guess, I cant think of the right word) could be added, like a boss themed, Peaches Castle.

I dunno, I'm just throwing ideas out there.

this month's theme is.

Dark and Spooky:

Compose a track that fits some sort of dark and eerie place. any universe is fine,
from the depths of Brinstar to Boo's Mansion try and create a feeling of the chill when a spook or two sneaks up on you!

Mecha supports!
I've wanted to do something like this for a long time. But then people would probably get dominated by Yoshiman and Alex. :S

I'm digging this spooky idea

I like Mecha's idea, but I was thinking that the first comp should have more of an easy topic, just so everyone can get a feel for whats going on.

Like World 1-1 on SMB. A simple, timeless, classic. But thats just my opinion.

But from the people in this topic who said they would probally enter one, and other people on MFGG who compose, I'd say there would be enough entries.

All we need is an admins okay to make a topic for a trial comp.

heh, mine was just an example of what I figure the themes should be like.

although it would make the number of possible themes limited..
at times we could even do remixes if necessary.

I'd definitely enter these!

I need something to flex my songwriting muscles anyway.

EDIT: also, I should reccomend at least two-three weeks, maybe even a month for this competion, because it takes a while to write and record a good song for some people.

Anvil Studio, it's free and user friendly

If anything, people can make midis.

and not everyone here has TGF or Gamemaker but we still have minigame comps.
(I know it's a bad example considering this is a fangaming forum but still...)

Finale Notepad is free, too. The tools need are available for free, so I don't see why not.

I think this at least deserves at least one trial

problem is most people don't have keyboards or whatever

- drawing comps work well because anybody can just pick up whatever marking instrument they can find and draw on something

- spriting comps work well because you can use any type of motion-sensitive input device; everybody here has a trackball or mouse at the very least

- minigame comps work well since all game creation programs are designed to use basic input devices

- music comps are harder, since while you CAN use a mouse/computer keyboard, it is unbelievably tedious compared to using actual instruments and conversion devices that can input the notes as you play them ($$$)

what about 3D comps and Flash comps and fullsize game comps and sculpting comps and knitting comps?

No, there are enough official competitions, and you can just have your own unofficial one for your niche creative outlet of choice.

Mouse and Typing Keyboard is not that tedious at all really.

I often use anvil studio to compose midi versions of my songs before recording them with guitar.

it's tedious for people who can't read sheet music and/or can't hear a note and name it

Fair enough.

You do make a valid point, and to be honest I don't see any real reason to give people badges or something for it, but I do think it will be fun, and the idea of competing in my creative field makes me excited that's all.
