Portal 2 idea

Modes

• Singleplayer (Play Portal)
• Multiplayer (Join a multiplayer server already in progress or create your own multiplayer server)

  Test Chamber Creation (Create your own test chamber)

• Achievements (Check Achievements you have obtained)

  Care For Companion Cube (Care for your very own Companion Cube)

• Extras (See videos, concept art, etc. you obtained)
• Options (Set the options to your likings)
• Credits (See who helped make the game)

Singleplayer plays like the last Portal. Multiplayer is just Deathmatch using other objects. You could also submit your Companion Cube and Test Chambers. Achievements is self-explanatory. Extras are unlocked by completing certain tasks. Every cutscene you see is automatically added onto this mode. You already know what Options and Credits are.

Bonus Maps is like that last Portal. You could play maps that you've downloaded from others. Test Chamber Creation is a mode where you could set landmarks and stuff. You could also add turrets. Care For Companion Cube would have to be my favorite of all. It's kinda like Chao Garden except there are no Chao's and no gardens. You're in a lab and see a Companion Cube. It can interact with you somehow. You get to see it's stats (Health, Strength, Power, Attack, Speed). You also can buy items, such as: Turret Doll, GLaDOS parts, etc.).

the only new thing in that list would be multiplayer, there are already homemade levels in the steam modding community that my friend has played through (many of which are quite clever)

and tbh I don't see multiplayer portal working very well. it's a great game and all, but I don't think it lends itself to the whole deathmatch concept. perhaps cooperative play or something, like the Zelda Four Swords series, would be more suitable.

and the whole companion cube thing (which is really not that great of an idea)

yes the whole point of the companion cube is that it is an ordinary steel Aperture Science Weighted Storage Cube that doesn't *actually* have the properties of a living companion, but is perceived to by the previous neurotic/psychotic test subjects

i don't think portal can really have a true sequel, just extra "official" level packs

one cool thing that could be done is including the portal gun in a full-on half-life game, amongst the other weapons--that way it could be used for utility (much like the gravity gun)

of course I don't own any of the half-life 2 games unfortunately so idk if they've already implemented this or what =(

Portal is actually a part of the Half-Life storyline that ties into everything that's going on and everything that'll happen in the story. This is revealed in HL2 Ep 2. So they'd probably never create a sequel and instead just make HALF-LIFE 2 EPISODE 3 with you finding the Portal Gun or something.

Or they could just start saying/hinting Apeture Science has/had some relation to Black Mesa.

1.) Valve considered Portal Multiplayer, but didn't really have a good idea as to how to best implement it. Currently the only real multi is competing for best times, but if enough people shout they'll probably look into it.

2.) Valve apparently tooled around with the idea of a simple Tony Hawk-style ingame editor. Presumably the experiments didn't work out well enough to keep.

3.) The Portal team are apparently looking for suggestions as to what to do next. Map packs? Multiplayer? Portal 2? Give up and make Day of Defeat maps?

4.) In regards to the Portal Gun in a Half-Life game...
