it also looks very suspiciously like Chinese, which is likely because the Japanese stole about half of their language from China in the first place, so you shouldn't be so snide about Salad's trouble
The sword is certainly too short and will be relatively useless as an offensive weapon; it's as short as a knife, but is very thick and would be difficult to use very efficiently. You could probably parry with it, in which case it should be in your non-dominant hand, like a shield would be. The lines showing the slant near the tip are much too defined and it would probably be better to emphasize the slope change with shading, rather than with lines. The tip should also still be two colors, but they should fade into the same color
The amulet contrasts sharply with the overall style of the rest of the image: it doesn't have the cartoony black outline. I understand it is a focal point of the image, but it should remain in the same style
The hand under the medallion looks very slightly deformed, on the underside of the palm and the thumb. The palm has too much of a corner and the thumb is too thin near the base. The rest of the hand is fine although the fingers might be too short in general
The background would be more interesting if you added planets and nebulae to it, especially with certain color choices
I do like the expression and the general form of the character, although his legs might be a bit short (this is hard to tell his loose shirt hides the hip level)
Also, try fading out lines that enter the image, such as on the top hair strand and chin
This is a nifty picture though, and I think that if you only edited the background it would be much more impressive

The amulet's glow shouldn't be solid in the area inside of the ... string or whatever you want to call it, it should follow the inside of it in the same way it follows the outside. otherwise that is kind of weird. it looks good although the amulet doesn't match styles (that's been said though) and I would change the lighting on the sword/sword arm so that it matches the amulet as a light source, probably something like with dark areas at the top and bottom, although a smaller one at the top the reason why the top isn't lighter is because the amulet isn't directly on top-- it's on the opposite side of the body etc also perhaps add some darkness to the left side of the leg on the left of the picture, and to the left side of the right leg (to make it appear more three dimensional as opposed to flat) if you aren't using the amulet as a light source, this is all moot... but it makes the most sense to me.
