Saw a link to this on another forum, forwarding it on.

Construct

It appears from the screenshots to be a sort of open-source MMF replacement with DX9 features and a physics engine.

Random feature-set I copypasted:
QUOTE

  • Drag-and-Drop interface for placing game objects
  • Easy to learn event-based scripting system
  • Super fast hardware-accelerated DirectX 9 graphics engine
  • Use multiple pixel shaders for advanced special effects, including lighting, HDR, distortion, lenses and more
  • Physics engine for realistic object behavior
  • Place object on different layers for organizing display, parallax, or whole-layer effects
  • Debugger giving you complete control over all aspects of your game for testing purposes.
  • 50+ plugins ranging from Tiled Background to database access

I'm going to check it out.

Okay, I just tried this, and it's actually really good. Very similar to the MMFs, but advanced in some ways.

Expect all Clickteam users to become instantly objective towards this and blam it to death.

Meanwhile, this looks great judging by the screenshots. I'm not about to try it, though, because I'm reaching my maximum capacity of the number of languages and programs to use.

no, but it has a ton of interface-based features that i hate to death (such as tabs), hell it takes me forever to find anything

i barely use the event list editor in MMF (actually i only use it to rearrange stuff because i find it too unintuitive to use as a main editor), and as far as i can see, it's the only way of programming stuff in construct, so

about the only feature trasher has in that list that MMF doesn't is DX9 and pixel shader support, which MMF is supposed to get by the end of the month

from what i can see, it's also lacking a ton of extensions that MMF has; most of those are the ones i always use

i'm surprised that it can't load .cca and .mfa files, especially since construct itself was coded by a former MMF extension creator... hell if i'm going to totally remake a lot of my

not railing on it or anything, but right now it just seems far behind in some things. i may use it eventually, but it depends on whether or not most of what i mentioned is added

Yeah, basically, the only way to know if this program is good, is to attempt to re-create one of the games you've made in MMF2, and see how far you get before you realize you won't be able to do anymore.

Huh? You gotta be kidding me! Then how are you going to tell how you want your games to operate? :P

As for me, it looks interesting (I'm not bashing it), but the layout looks a bit confusing -- I'm still sticking with the TGF environment in regards to this.

This looks pretty good. I'm a "Games Factory/MultiMedia Fusion" type of guy. I'm used to using TGF, so I usually will spend most my time making a game in TGF, then opening it in MMF to add other things that I can only do in MMF. Basically I hate the layout to MMF. Well I used to hate it but I've gotten used to it, and could make a game from scratch in it if I had to (except MMF's animation editor sucks balls compared to TGF, I can't figure out how to do anything in the MMF animation editor, specifically I can't figure out how to set the size of the sprite, the interface isn't as friendly as TGF)

Looking at these screenshots, it looks like it has some advanced stuff (like lighting and layers) but a layout that I like (the tabs seem nice, and looks similar to the TGF format)

First, let me tell you I've been using Clickteam software for a long time. And currently use MMF2D. Now my opinion on Construct.

After fiddling around with Construct for a few hours (yes, hours), I have to say it's a very interesting application. Very similar to MMF2, which is why it may have been easier for me to use than, say, a Game Maker user. Even the actions and events are very similar to those of MMF2.

The interface is easy to use and not all too complicated. In fact, I like the event editor better than that of MMF2. They did a damn fine job with that.

Now for me MMF2 has not yet been replaced. But that doesn't stop me from keeping an eye on this. Looking forward to future releases of Construct.

Isn't TGF very outdated in game making tool technology?

If you ever want to move on to more complex games with more feature potential, then you probably should consider switching to something more advanced. (Probably a newer Clickteam product or this, if you want the interface to stay as much the same as possible, but I wouldn't know for sure about that since I don't know much about any of the programs I'm mentioning.)
