Let's keep this topic nice and clean please.

With all competitions running all nice and easy, it has come to me that their is a growing number of people with interests in writing- that's when it hit me (i bet you know what's coming)

Literature Competitions.

These competitions would not have to revolve around Mario, unless the person hosting so chooses too, but it could be about anything- the set up would look kind of like this:
QUOTE

Theme- Futuristic
Setting- Desert
Amount of characters allowed- 4
Minimum Words per Paragraph- 50

Voting of course, would be others voting for their favourite piece, where factors like length, description, device use and other implementations come into play.
Of course there is plenty of room for improvement, but none the less, like all competitions, the time will come when it adapts to a more suitable rule.

Now, of course, I'm not trying to tell you i want it to happen, I'm trying to just give a suggestion in favour of fellow writers around MFGG.

So, now it's your turn- what do you think? do you think this could work, or do you think it'll die faster than the feeling of excitement on Christmas morning after all the presents are opened.

People will definitely join, but it won't be as big as some of the other competitions.
The big problems is that MFGG is full of people who type faster then an 8 year old on AOL, so this may not be as much quality all around.
And I think Minimum per Paragraph should just change to minimum/maximum words in the story.
If someone makes a 6 word paragraph, their story just won't be voted for as much, as that would be harder to read.
I say go for it, but don't expect 17 Stephen King novels per competition.

Not a bad idea.

However, I'd be concerned about the competition's activity and quality of entries.

I know I'd enter.
(why else would I have made this topic?)

Of course, something like this requires interest, so post your views even if you will know you'll never enter.

I'd enter for sure. So it sounds like a great idea.

I moved this to the Arts Board, because I'm giving it the same treatment of the Music Competition.

Hmm, sounds interesting. I could probably think up some interesting things for this competition. It also gives us a good start for storyline type things. Would the way it's formatted affect anything? I personally would like to write it in a playscript format (every once in a while, at least), like:
[setting] Desert
*Mario and his friends enter, stage right*
Mario: [dialog goes here]
[/scene 1]

I'd say it wouldn't as long as you followed all of the rest of the rules.
Though, most people would probably prefer most descriptive paragraphs.

True, true. I'm just throwing ideas out. This doesn't have to be restricted to just paragraph form though, right?

I'd honestly say, that play scripts would be acceptable, but it's just... well, bland, IMO, play scripts tend to be directions and way things are to be done and said, rather than a story telling in a vivid description, however, sometime play scripts can pull it off with description, if it's done well.

I say we should just post it now, give until new years to finish (great literature, and just finding the topic takes time) and then re-assess the decision later.

Ok, i'll make a new topic now with the competition... though one thing, what are we to do with prizes?

Maybe we should use the first competition as a pilot before brining badges/prizes in, because this is a literature competition, we can't exactly draw the winner, and i think
"Here's a story starring your character" is a pretty lame prize =(

Ok, so yeah, i'll post the new comp... if i should post it here?

Yes, post it here.

Maybe the admins should make a lit compo badge.

First should be a pilot, then if we keep it, we ask the mods really nicely to give out badges. What should the badge be of? I might be able to make it.
