Alright, I'm gonna email the company behind this. It's Tektronix. I'm emailing public relations, namely the first person on the list Alisha Goff. Here's my email:
QUOTE
To: ww-corporate-communications@tektronix.com
From: knuxt15@netscape.net
Subject: Question about lawsuits on 3D rendering method patent
Message: Good day madam,

I was reading the online news website "The Register," and I stumbled across this article: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/11/03/game_cos_3d_lawsuit/
This states that the law firm of McKool Smith is using this patent - which will soon expire - to sue all the major video game companies that used this method or similar methods to make 3D video games.  I just wish to ask one question: Why is your company doing this?  Why are you trying to destroy modern video gaming?  This lawsuit can cause a larger Video Game Crash than the one that happened in the mid-1980's, when the games available for the Atari 2600 became so saturated and poorly-made that people stopped playing.  This one will force developers to pull all 3D games off the shelves and stop work on all upcoming 3D games.  Since there will no longer be as many video games available as there are today, there will be nothing left to play, and the industry will be destroyed.  You will leave millions of people devistated because all of the upcoming games are cancelled.  You will also stop the production of any movie using this 3D method.  And if anyone wants to make anything with this method, they will need your permission, or else you'll take cash from innocent developers that only have one goal: to make something for people to enjoy.  Please, I really want to know why you are doing this.
Thank you for your time,

Christopher Trumbour

P.S. I decided to email you (Public Relations) because I felt this involves the public, since that's the people who play these 3D games are.
Note how I'm not saying things like "OMFG U SUX" and instead trying to keep a more calm and polite approach.

EDIT: Post 2000.

If Bush got re-elected by a landslide then there is a chance this guy will win.

LKNDLNGD It wasn't a landslide, the vote was split almost 50-50.

Anyways, on topic: I don't see this guy getting a plugged nickel out of this, it's too ridiculous. This is talking about something that could literally bankrupt the gaming industry, and work further to cripple a decent part of the economy.

Hey, at least if it went through we'd be forced to go back to 2D gaming.

Think about it, would that really be such a bad thing? soveryhappy.gif

Well, at least we'd still have video games, and I've always wanted a new classic SMB game (SMB4 anyone?) and/or see what SSBM would look like when sprited! soveryhappy.gif

it should be painfully obvious that they're only doing it to get a large sum of money.

remember the woman who sued mcdonald's because of their coffee being too hot? same diff, people sue for stupid crap all the time on the off-chance that they'll actually win the lawsuit (and DO win many times).

I actually read into that once, and the coffee was at a disturbingly high temperature. Too high for skin.

Yes, but she was DRIVING A CAR with the coffee BETWEEN HER LEGS. It doesn't take a genius to know that if you do that and hit a speed bump or something, there's a good chance you'll spill coffee on your crotch, and even if it's just normal temperature coffee, it's gonna hurt REAL BAD.

Yes it would because the 2D universe is pretty limited. Don't get me wrong though, I love my 2D platformers.
