Oh yeah and they actually did a completely different ending for the movie originally. Not the one from the book, this one was possibly even worse than the one they did end up using:

Spoilers:
Originally those infected people at the end weren't going to attack Neville, they just wanted the girl Neville had captured to do experiments on. The movie would end with The Fresh Prince of the Apocalypse opening the plexiglass door and giving them the girl back and they'd just kinda leave without attacking.

I was expecting something like that but then LOL

but seriously, movie fell apart after Spoilers:

I never read this book, but I've heard a great deal about it. This movie was pretty good but honestly nothing that memorable. It was the first movie in a long time where I had to shut my eyes because it there were so many jump out at you parts. And for that I give it props.
The story follows the "last" man on earth as he tries to cure a virus that has swept the world. Honestly it felt like an I, Robot gone human, which isn't a bad thing. I loved I, Robot. But I don't feel this one topped that. The monsters were great and were surprisingly original, I just wish they didn't scare the **** out of you all the time. The environments was another thing that was amazing, it really appeared lifeless and the movie never once felt fake.
Will Smith is a action movie genius and I think if anything you owe it to him to see this. But I have to say the ending was very predictable.

Neville: My name is Robert Neville. I am a survivor living in New York City. I am broadcasting on all AM frequencies. I will be at the South Street Seaport everyday at mid-day, when the sun is highest in the sky. If you are out there... if anyone is out there... I can provide food, I can provide shelter, I can provide security. If there's anybody out there... anybody... please. You are not alone.

I usually don't pay attention to scary movies. I watch but I'd be like "oh wow scary"

But I got really into this movie!

The dog is easily the best character ever.

also who was fred again?

Fred was the mannequin that the Darkseekers set up as a trap. The "DAMNIT FRED" scene.

I agree with what Mario gamer said, at times the movie felt like a 100-minute long screamer. Every time there was silence for more than 4 seconds... BAM! Zombie in your face!

My friend's read the book and is going to lend it to me.

The reason why the movie is different is because the book has been adapted twice before.

Once in an old Vincent Price flick called "The Last Man On Earth", and a second time (with a heavily altered story) called "The Omega Man".

The new "I Am Legend" movie is more of a remake of "The Omega Man" than anything else.

oh, and for those wondering what the major differences are.

Spoilers:
Basically, the book is about vampires, and the movie is all zombie apocalypse.

For the record I enjoyed the movie quite much.

I loved the movie. I personally thought it was too short and that Ethan was an unneeded character.
