I write my engines from scratch.

Like, every time I make a new game.

I'd rather do my engines myself. It's more comfortable to work with.

Same here. Sometimes when I look at an engine I have absolutely no idea what's going on. If somebody looked at an open source of one of my games they would almost never figure it out, as I create my own variables alot of the time, some with completely random names.

I use them when I want a game for myself, and I just want to make a game that's fun for me. Then I keep the games with engines to myself. That's what I meant in the first post.

Most people get annoyed (as we can tell here XD) when engines are stole.

My main reason is this; when I know I can make a damn good engine myself - and someone else can't do as good a job as me, I want to be recognized as the one with the higher ability. When n00bs use awesome engines which are passed their ability and come out with a few levels with this eye-popping gameplay, and say "MY fangame" Where is the justice!?

After I tested out UltraMario's engine (I think that's the one) I thought "I've got some improving to do before I reach this level."

BUT the thing is! If you play a pwnage game which is pwnage because of the engine ... find out who made that fkin engine. >=[ GRR

~Rant over.

I wouldn't even want to use a pre-existing engine because then it would be too clumsy for me to use and understand.

I'd rather do game engines from scratch in my projects. Thanks heavens that we're able to create "test levels" that are author access only. :P

Like for example, in the current fangame I have in the works, I had to reserve 2 levels (TGF talk) -- one to test the animations of my main characters, and a second one to be like a 'starting point' for the levels that I make.

Just don't forget to test them, and do it very often. wink.gif

I do since I use actual programming languages. I'd rather not make a new graphics api every time I want to make a game.
