Editing Backgrounds

I was thinking for my game to edit a normal SMW BG and then edit it to make it look all dark and scary or maybe make it dark red at the top and lighter red at the bottom to look like lava is flowing beneath you.

Sounds awesome, if you do it right.

Here, I'll post a pic of the BG when it's done, it's going to be just simple editing.

Woah, it came out a little differently than I expected but meh. It's cool in my opinion.

All I can say.

I say it depends if it REALLY is necessary. In most cases, I'd just leave the said background alone. But that's just my take on it. :P

I might edit another one for a snow level.

whoa! Mind if i use it? b/c uit would be perfect for an upcomming level i have planed in LLP3 (yes, a long way off) where...well, i don;t want to give away the plot...

it looks like you just inverted it after lightening the colors.

Well yeah, it's very simple, I didn't say it would be proffesional but it looks like something you would see in Bowser's world right?

A got a YI hill BG and I made it have a more wintery feel.

it all realy depends on if you absolutly need it, or can suffice a ripped background.

Im kinda suprised you didn't just go raid (and convert to the right pallet and look) bghq.com backgrounds. its the most likely thing I would of done

My eyes weep at the sight of these poor butchered backgrounds..

Seriously slapping an effect or two never ends up good.

tbh I really can't see why people like this.

1. It's really just a lame edit. It's easy to achieve with a simple alpha effect, so this isn't really art of yours at all. Plus, the blue clouds are an eyesore.

2. It doesn't look more wintery. It just looks grainy.

3. It's blurred.

And, as others said, nobody really needs this at all. And also, not that many people really want original backgrounds, and you're not even providing them; as said before, you're just putting Photoshop effects on somebody else's work.
