I like this game, but I'm skeptical about the turn-based implementation. My opinion, I'd rather combo enemies and bosses on the fly. Did you give Mario a hammer?

An easy and hard mode would be nice, but it would take double the amount of time to finish everything.(that is if I was actually doing turn-based)

Mario gets the hammer on chapter 1-2. However, I also realize it's better killing enemies on the fly.

yeah I was planning on doing that, but I'm going to temporarily put the turn-based engine on hold.

UPDATE Level spotlight: Wind Prairie

And the story continues. I don't know if you got far enough, but Mario was kidnapped by General guy and was successfully used as a test subject for "the experiment". Lily saves Mario and now it's time to stop General Guy before he escapes with valuable information. The mountains are riddled with General Guy's army at top notch, so come prepared.

I'd hope people in general wouldn't think my selection of music was bad. I figured people wouldn't make it to the Biolabs because of the quest you have to complete to enter.

Speaking of, I think having three different arsenal weapon enemies is enough.

-Cannon ball turret
-Machine gun turret
-Pistol spy guys.

anymore and it'd get cluttered with madness.

Those rock pillars in Wind Prairie don't fit with the ground properly. Everything else seems fine, but I don't like much style mixes to be honest ( example: that cannon from MMX and that shy guy).

yeah I was going to eventually change the texture on the pillars to fit the ground. The cannon..mm I don't really see it having a problem, but I'll probably just desaturate it to fit the Spy guy. I believe certain styles can work together if done right.

Only actually, because while the ground is brown, those pillars are more yellow than brown.


Also, the complain I had about the Spy guy and the cannon was that the cannon looks more detailed than the Spy guy.

Most likely not. I'm more aimed at keeping it a 1-player 100% story-mode type of deal. Since I'm bumping this I might aswell post what I have completed so far.

NEWS: Wind Prairie - Midway Point

About half-way done with wind prairie now. The level consists of three different sections of platforming to make General Guy's capture more exciting. And of course, I have a VIDEO to show just how it's gonna work out for the second portion.

(Note: Yes I realized I died, but only because I didn't want viewers to see the third portion. Also, No, This is not the real General Guy battle. He has 2 preliminary phases, then the actual chapter boss fight comes after.)

NEWS: It's been awhile since I last updated, but with good reason.
1) Finals
2) Internet problem
My Internet completely stopped working for maybe 2 weeks, until we finally decided to give up on fixing it ourselves, and had a professional look at it. Anyway I haven't done really any level progress. I've been working on the equipment system!(Has taken me a week to get the general idea of how things work)

INFORMATION

The way the equipment will work in this game is simple. It is divided into 4 categories.

-Headgear
-Armor/Body
-Shoes
-Accessories

Equipment items are all indicated by a gift box item. It can contain either of the 4 categories within it.

Once you've obtained the gift box, it'll say what item you got. If you take a look at the stats, of course there are no bonuses because nothing is equipped.

So we head over to the equip tab to put some things on.

Let's try a simple leather hat that gives +2 DP.(Defense Points)

Looking back at the stats, you can see a brown counter representing your equipment bonus stats. These are calculated into your regular stats. Of course, Party members will share the same equipment.

This means your new stats are:
HP: 31
FP: 14
DP: 8
AP: 9


Everything's almost finished as far as the equipment system goes, but I do however need some people to sprite the equipment sprites. There's over around 80 different equipments, and it's going to take quite a bit of time to sprite all of those myself. The equipment sprites will be displayed while highlighting over them in the equip menu. If anyone is willing to help, It'll be gladly appreciated.(Of course you'll get credit where it's due.)

(Wow, in 12 days will mark 1 year this has been in the making!)

I was thinking about doing that, but then realized how extremely tacky he looked with anything besides his usual clothes. Actually, I still have a back up that has his appearance changes...

Yeah..Anyway if I manage to get some spriters to help me do all 50+ of them, then sure. I mean I don't really mind doing them all myself, but I just cant seem to make him have that "official" look when they are equipped.

yeah you did the view kinda wrong. Mario's default hat is sideview while your leather hat is top/side.

December 24, 2008

NEWS: Christmas is soon, and good thing I just recently finished my boss battle.(Took 4 days to do). Finally I can take a break feeling satisfied it is complete.


PREQUEL: After an extensive chase through the mountains of Wind Prairie, Mario finally corners General Guy…Or so he thinks. Turns out it was General Guy who was playing the tricks by leading Mario right into his Base! Now Mario must defeat him to find out what the secrets are of the “Organization”(They actually aren't evil at all. It's more of what your perspective is on what is good and bad).

Of course, I have a video of such an event. (Please note that I realized after I recorded the video that the pause menu was in equipment system testing mode, therefore none of the items worked.)

GeneralGuy:Boss Battle

And that closes Chapter 1.

On to Chapter 2-1, Tranquil Forest.
(I'm still on the look out for spriters. However if I do not find any within maybe a week I'll just go without doing appearance changes.
