I remember when you first started this. Weren't you completely new to MMF2? Anyways, the graphics look amazing. However, some are clashing. Like the General guy and Flora. Remove the shading on them and add a black outline. This includes some backgrounds too. Like the jail one.

hmm not exactly. I had been using TGF/MMF 1.5 for maybe 2 years. I started this project after maybe 3 years of inactivity, so I basically forgot how to do some simple things.

yeah the topic might go inactive for awhile, but i'm still definitely working on it. I'm revamping the engine again to make the engine more global. Might be awhile before I add another level though since I want to finish ALL the party members combo skills before progressing.

HWA beta 3 came out today too, so I may even switch over to that for faster speeds.

It would be illegal for you to actually trademark the name for your game. Anyways, this is the most awesome Paper Mario fan-game I have ever played. I really must say you did an extremely great job on this and hope to see you finish it some time.

i doubt he'd trademark it anyway, and iirc ™ doesn't have any legal force anyway and people generally use it because they usually won't get in trouble over it

yeah it could get nintendo a little more interested in c+d'ing mr but i doubt it

NEWS: Before I make global changes, I'd like to have feedback on any issues you have. I'm 100% certain there are kinks that need to be worked out, since perhaps I'm completely overlooking them. Also if the FPS is below 40, inform me aswell.

Debugging keys:
-Press "`" to switch party members.
-Press "1" for Fire Flower.
-Press "2" for Electric flower.
-Press "3" for Wind Flower,
-Press "4" for Ice Flower.
-You can disable Flora from the pause menu.

There's a ton of actions to test out. I can't possibly name everything. It's best you don't know what does what though.

-Known Problems-
-Can sometimes swim when outside the water. Causes changes in x/y movements.
-If you die, it goes into a constant death loop. Easy 1 event fix, but just restart the application to playtest again.(I'd rather not re-upload)
-if you light the rope on fire, and you're NOT in the cannon, it still fires you. (wow how'd I miss that)
-If you get hit with wind power with mario, AND the barrier is on, you lose your wings. however, you can still fly.

The skills system seems kinda slow. Are you going to add skill hotkeys for quick switching?

It depends. There are default skills & combo skills. The default skills are all executed the same way. The combo skills are usually just 2 buttons, and can be used without switching to them. If you have it, you can use it just as long as it meets the requirements in the description.

i'm assuming you're saying switching to the default skills takes too much time. (pause menu -->char select --> select skill.) I'll see if a hotkey(s) can be triggered to change default skills without going to the menu.

(note: all combo skills have been enabled for testing.)

The only problem that I can see in the video since I didn't get to test out the demo yet.
Is that the camera goes too fast while it follows Mario.
I mean it moves perfect but it kind of gives you a headache when you can't follow everything.
Maybe make it move a little bit slower?

instead of continuously adding to the engine, maybe make it a bit more stable? There are a lot of minor flaws that makes it generally annoying to play

Yes I'm certain there are minor flaws, but sometimes I don't catch them all. so far I've only seen preferences listed. I'm still open to concerns though. I'd be really happy if you could list those minor flaws so I can fix them. SAGE is coming around the corner soon and I want everything ironed out.

Yeah so apparently of the ones that playtested, you haven't encountered any problems? I'm still waiting for someone to post a bug list. I whipped this demo up in 5 mins, so there has to be something out there. I'd highly appreciate it if you post them/PM me. =)

  • needs a "stop any sample playing" at start of game (in case you F2)
  • Jumping feels awkward and heavy, and nothing like traditional Mario (or any platform movement, for the matter). Feels like variable jumping was only added for the sake of it.
  • Wings don't flip with Mario
  • Mario doesn't fall if you jump break a brick block while holding jump
  • Swimming upwards in water should be jump, not up
  • Vines are misleading. Makes you think you can grab them and don't feel like a part of the bg. Blur them, perhaps? EDIT: oh wait **** you can. But it's extremely difficult.
  • I somehow managed to swim on land (if you walk up near the edges of the pool)

Cool cool thanks! exactly what I was looking for.

-Variable jumping was only added because it was highly requested, although i'm sure you can platform perfectly without it.
-Forgot to give it the qualifier for flipping. will do.
-Holding jump while breaking bricks should break his fall? will do.
-yeah I figured swimming would be awkward
-probably because they have the same sin movement as the stars. you hold shift to hold on to them.(you can grab any part)
-yep, listed in known issues.
-I'll check it out
-yeah it's an issue with variable jumping giving him extra y boost, but will be fixed.
