I spotted something interesting in the credits.

Spoilers:

Pocketnes system core.
Apparently they used an emulator for the unlockable classics "contra" and "superC".

Anyway:
overall, A great game,
Combines many of the greatest elements from the other contra's

The spoilers were kinda old for me, since I found it out on Wikipedia.

And I already beat the game on Easy. Now I'm going through the challenge mode.

Only 28 of the 40 challenges completed for me.
