That's probably because we haven't seen Mario riding a bike since the Mario Excitebike Bunbun Stadium-something game. And that game was actually cool. But it would be weird if there was both Mario Kart AND Excitebike, so i guess they could put both in only one racing game.

In which case the game shouldn't be Mario Kart, but Mario Racing. They ditched the karts in Double Dash, defeating the purpose of the franchise.

The purpose of the franchise is to make a fun racing game that sells, so I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about.

The constitution of a "kart" is also very loose -- do you remember when little kids would build "karts" out of wood that looked more like tanks, and then push them down a hill and race through town using only the momentum of that hill as fuel?
