And Nintendo get Metal Slug exclusive games more than they get Metal Gear, so uh yeah

No, Metal Gear was originally for the MSX and was ported to the NES. Twin Snakes made very little impact compared to MGS2 and MGS3. In fact, most MGS fans feel Twin Snakes is a joke due to it's ridiculous cutscenes and story. Though Snake IS more popular than any Metal Slug character.
