Not bad, but they seem a bit too real/pale/textured when compared to the sprites. Sure, it would be easy to use premade backgrounds, but where would be the fun in that? :P


Plus, making backgrounds was the main reason I got involved in the first place. :P

Your sky gradient is in reverse. I know it's an example, but it looks akward.

That depends, actually. If the BGs are outlined, yes, and we may still have to change palettes. IMO the plains BG looks fine.

Only if we decided we want to copy NSMB's hills for our background, though. <_<


And on closer inspection, it seems to be a bit sloppy... The lighting is coming from below the horizon, the stripes are all one color except for the very edge, and there are chunks of yellow outlines stuck in on the right side from where you copied the chunk of the hill and tiled it downwards. :(


And something about the leaves bother me. They're too unnatural (more apparent in the forest). D:

Mariorocks21, the backgrounds you linked to are very busy and hard to look at when sprites are moving against them. I say we just start from scratch like everything else.
