Since I'm in marching band you are correct, we always lead off with our left foot. But I heard from other band members something more fun. When band members are walking in hallways and are completely phased out, other band members hide behind corners and say commands, and they sometimes do them. Like I heard from this years color guard captain that she was walking, and someone shouted "present arms!" so she dropped her books and saluted.
