I've got nothing against secret characters as such, but as I said a few dozen pages back, a lot of these characters would have been better as suits. Samus for example - most of her abilities come from a suit anyway

hell, Tails could have been a powerup for Sonic, following you around like in Sonic 2 and 3... and then you could go DKC on it and have it so that if Sonic gets hit you play as Tails instead. It's much more interesting than having a different character slot.

At this stage I'd personally drop any other concepts of Kirbys or Rolls or whatever and focus primarily on the levels.



That R-Type stage is great though

The 10 regular characters are too important story wise to be removed.


But anyways the team isn't working on characters right now, as Wario and Link are pretty much finished.

I'm downloading this right now, and am expecting great things. I've seen YouTube videos of this, and I'm pretty much impressed with what I've seen.

5? Last I checked, the (mostly) complete ones are Mario, Sonic, Luigi, Tails, Arthur, Link, and now wario. And I think vile, if he counts.

The massive player roster is my doing. I've got the system down to where I can complete a character in the same time span as a well made level is built.

Now that we have other coders getting involved the player roster will likely just keep growing. But since players are mostly external resource based, thus have little impact on the source loadtimes / filesize, we have no intention of stopping. Not a game for those that want pure Mario or non clashing sprites.
