True, but isn't this MUSHROOM KINGDOM Fusion? I thought the main star was supposed to be Mario.

No it's called that because Mario is an attention *****.

Would you want to play a game where all the characters were almost exactly alike?

"Mushroom Kingdom Fusion" is named as such because the game uses the Hello Engine and many of the mechanics are based around the Mario series gameplay. But the Mushroom Kingdom only makes up 1 world out of 11, thus it's a very small slice.

I've just noticed... a lot of MKFR members have migrated here in an attempt to stop this petty argument. cool.gif

Also, to respond to your comment, you could consider Mushroom Kingdom to be a hub world of sorts. Based on what I know (which isn't much, I'm only a C-Dev), Mushroom Kingdom is critical to the plot.

QUOTE (Ben66 @ Mar 14 2009, 05:35 PM)
Mickey Mouse is, of course, a cartoon character, not a video game character. And MKF is a multi-crossover between video games only.

That was a reference to Super Mario MF - Judgespear's earlier cancelled creation that was retooled into this game. The character was scrapped, but my point was it was a more interesting choice than some of these.

Though I wouldn't take it seriously. I prefer Donald Duck.

QUOTE (Ben66 @ Mar 14 2009, 05:35 PM)
I admit that I didn't fully explain the whole GHZ thing. We aren't just slapping a Sonic stage in and calling it a day. We're resizing all Genesis graphics to be in scale with the characters (and touching up the resized graphics to restore the quality). And we also aren't directly using the original level design of these stages. For example, Green Hill Zone will have a different layout than it originally did. And it will even incorporate the underground water cave section from the Gamegear Sonic 1 version of the stage.

well you should have said

then I could have cut down my rant a bit!

but seriously, sounds good
QUOTE (Ben66 @ Mar 14 2009, 05:35 PM)
And we aren't including all these different game series just to 'please the kiddies.' We're including them because we've planned out how to adapt them into stages for the game and how to incorporate their unique attributes to be fun.

To be honest I haven't seen any stages shown off so far that are adapted to certain characters (though granted, that might be due to come later). The majority of these characters have a tanooki suit of some description which practically guarantees any of them could get anywhere in the level. Aside from physics, hitpoints and projectiles there's not a massive difference between playing the game as Sonic and playing it as Mario. I suggested that because Sonic can't swim he shouldn't be able to access all the watery levels that Mario could access, and likewise Mario can't spindash so there's got to be possibilities there as well.

To bring back my other comparison, Sonic 3K - Knuckles takes a completely different route in that game practically. Super Mario Bros. 2 (the Doki Doki Panic one) has 4 characters with different stats, but they all go down the same path and do the same thing, so there's not any motivation to finish the game as the individual characters. You'd have more success with the former than the latter.

don't blame the team for not implanting all this stuff though. It's a difficult task to do and it's made worse with the more characters that are added. Mind you, it'll be worth it IMO

QUOTE (Ben66 @ Mar 14 2009, 05:35 PM)
Where in any of the videos have you seen NES graphics alongside SNES graphics? I certainly haven't seen anything like that.

Someone posted a Krusty's Super Fun House level a few pages back that was taken straight from the NES game (despite the superior ports elsewhere).

to clarify on the whole graphics situation - I'm not too bothered unless things really look out of place. Amazingly the Doom stuff doesn't look that bad - the heights are pretty accurate, and though there's a bit of a clash, it's not quite as noticable. For example however, "Big" Wario is a bit too big, and it doesn't really match anything. The majority of stuff works, there's just a lot of videos about where it doesn't and that's not good

I'm not saying scrap everything but "one style in a world of multiple styles" works better than "multiple styles in a world of multiple styles". The former is somewhat artistic, the latter's messy.
QUOTE (tails12 @ Mar 15 2009, 02:02 AM)
Shodian has a point here. You can't expect everything to be magnificent in the early development of things. Also, it's not like this is our full-time job in life. Everyone has a life and we can only do our best with the time we have. Not every fangame can be professionally made like magic.
true, but this game has been in development for quite a while now and IIRC there's been release candidates, and release candidates are supposed to be very near the end of the development timeline. Clearly it isn't near the end but it shouldn't still be near the beginning
QUOTE (Shodian @ Mar 15 2009, 03:18 AM)

To be fair a lot of them already are

Luigi can jump higher than Mario and is a bit more slippery, but at the end of the day he is very much the same character. He does the same things, he practically looks the same... after all he was originally just a player 2 clone character. People keep saying it's not a Mario fangame, so what exactly is the character bringing to the game? A harder Mario? It's a similar situation with the roll/protoman thing, and I don't even think Luigi's unlockable.

but i'll shut up now

Hah, I'm the one that posted that Krusty's Funhouse level vid.

The reason I chose the NES port is because it's the version I grew up on. The level will be in Minus World, where we can put humorous clashing levels like that (for example we'll have a level based on the Pokemon games where you explore a glitched world and fight Missingno.).

Currently the Tanooki and Raccoon power-ups don't have flight limits, but that will change. Very soon we will put in the P-Meter system from SMB3 to limit flight, while the current unlimited flight will be a rare P-Wing power-up.

We've often thought about stuff like certain levels not being accessable by Sonic or Arthur, etc. But we'd also rather not force the player to have to lose a life because they just happened to choose the wrong character at the time. We'll think about alternate paths for characters and what-not, but it may come later at development.

And, I did include details on how the "samey" characters in fact played very differently. Luigi may not be THAT differenciated from Mario, but we've accepted that, since the two have been similar to yet different from each other for years now.

Apparently I annoyed too many people.

Though I can guarantee I didn't actually flame anyone, but yeah, perhaps it's not the best idea for the big wigs to come in and point out every flawed area of a fangame repeatedly. I had a feeling I'd probably take it a bit too far but I guess I'm too much of a perfectionist.

Sorry guys, won't happen again sad.gif

Especially sorry to Judgespear and Guinea since my actions put an extra PM or two in your inboxes. Don't let my *****ing put you off posting.

BS has a point. If there's too many characters thrown randomly in, it just seems like one of those Smash Bros. fangames where we see Megaman, a custom Sonic recolor and the companion cube fight off

those games are horrible

You should probably stick to a few francises and then keep it simple; I really don't see the point in adding 3 Megaman characters, where I didn't know any of them (apart from Megaman).

You all know what?

Why don't we just shut up about the sprite clashing and whatnot? This argument is stupid.

No, because you guys are refusing to fully acceot that we are correct.

Beside that, the game:
firstly, finish what you have first, and perfect it, then add more characters.
I honestly don't find a huge difference between all the chacters and some of their abbilities make the game much easier just to use them. If you're going to add lots of characters, at least make each of them very unique.

But, I am nitpicking. this still is a great game, despite its problems.

You haven't specified which of the many styles is the one you would prefer. Secondly, you'd need a huge team of people to replace all the clashing sprites.

For some reason, I'm getting the idea that this means:

"No, because we want you to succumb to our Chewbacca Defense so we can have self-gratification."

I've spent a long time away from MFGG and I am somewhat better at debating than I was when I first came. I can see logical fallacies coming from a mile away.

Really, you guys are acting like total pricks (well, "were" for most people. Glad you decided to quit.). These arguments have been repeated again and again, and answered. I don't see what the point of all this bickering is.

Heck, I'm not even sure if I should have replied to your post.

This mindless bickering over things is why I left the forums. I decided to come back for the time being, occasionally giving updates to the project.

humph, I guess I'm sounding too harsh, aren't I? Not my intention at all. I guess you guys have had way to much of this crap about style clashing, huh?I'm sure you guys know all about it and are laughing when people try to tell you stuff you already know. I still think that the game itself is brilliant, with an original idea.

I agree with you on that, but I have to draw the line at the word "original".

Let's think... how many crossover fangames have been made?
