anyway
| QUOTE (Ben66 @ Mar 14 2009, 05:35 PM) | | Mickey Mouse is, of course, a cartoon character, not a video game character. And MKF is a multi-crossover between video games only. |
That was a reference to Super Mario MF - Judgespear's earlier cancelled creation that was retooled into this game. The character was scrapped, but my point was it was a more interesting choice than some of these.
Though I wouldn't take it seriously. I prefer Donald Duck.
| QUOTE (Ben66 @ Mar 14 2009, 05:35 PM) | | I admit that I didn't fully explain the whole GHZ thing. We aren't just slapping a Sonic stage in and calling it a day. We're resizing all Genesis graphics to be in scale with the characters (and touching up the resized graphics to restore the quality). And we also aren't directly using the original level design of these stages. For example, Green Hill Zone will have a different layout than it originally did. And it will even incorporate the underground water cave section from the Gamegear Sonic 1 version of the stage. |
well you should have said
then I could have cut down my rant a bit!
but seriously, sounds good
| QUOTE (Ben66 @ Mar 14 2009, 05:35 PM) | | And we aren't including all these different game series just to 'please the kiddies.' We're including them because we've planned out how to adapt them into stages for the game and how to incorporate their unique attributes to be fun. |
To be honest I haven't seen any stages shown off so far that are adapted to certain characters (though granted, that might be due to come later). The majority of these characters have a tanooki suit of some description which practically guarantees any of them could get anywhere in the level. Aside from physics, hitpoints and projectiles there's not a massive difference between playing the game as Sonic and playing it as Mario. I suggested that because Sonic can't swim he shouldn't be able to access all the watery levels that Mario could access, and likewise Mario can't spindash so there's got to be possibilities there as well.
To bring back my other comparison, Sonic 3K - Knuckles takes a completely different route in that game practically. Super Mario Bros. 2 (the Doki Doki Panic one) has 4 characters with different stats, but they all go down the same path and do the same thing, so there's not any motivation to finish the game as the individual characters. You'd have more success with the former than the latter.
don't blame the team for not implanting all this stuff though. It's a difficult task to do and it's made worse with the more characters that are added. Mind you, it'll be worth it IMO
| QUOTE (Ben66 @ Mar 14 2009, 05:35 PM) | | Where in any of the videos have you seen NES graphics alongside SNES graphics? I certainly haven't seen anything like that. |
Someone posted a Krusty's Super Fun House level a few pages back that was taken straight from the NES game (despite the superior ports elsewhere).
to clarify on the whole graphics situation - I'm not too bothered unless things really look out of place. Amazingly the Doom stuff doesn't look that bad - the heights are pretty accurate, and though there's a bit of a clash, it's not quite as noticable. For example however, "Big" Wario is a bit too big, and it doesn't really match anything. The majority of stuff works, there's just a lot of videos about where it doesn't and that's not good
I'm not saying scrap everything but "one style in a world of multiple styles" works better than "multiple styles in a world of multiple styles". The former is somewhat artistic, the latter's messy.
| QUOTE (tails12 @ Mar 15 2009, 02:02 AM) | | Shodian has a point here. You can't expect everything to be magnificent in the early development of things. Also, it's not like this is our full-time job in life. Everyone has a life and we can only do our best with the time we have. Not every fangame can be professionally made like magic. |
true, but this game has been in development for quite a while now and IIRC there's been release candidates, and release candidates are supposed to be very near the end of the development timeline. Clearly it isn't near the end but it shouldn't still be near the beginning
| QUOTE (Shodian @ Mar 15 2009, 03:18 AM) | | Would you want to play a game where all the characters were almost exactly alike? |
To be fair a lot of them already are
Luigi can jump higher than Mario and is a bit more slippery, but at the end of the day he is very much the same character. He does the same things, he practically looks the same... after all he was originally just a player 2 clone character. People keep saying it's not a Mario fangame, so what exactly is the character bringing to the game? A harder Mario? It's a similar situation with the roll/protoman thing, and I don't even think Luigi's unlockable.
but i'll shut up now

| QUOTE (deaddude @ Mar 16 2009, 06:51 PM) | No, because you guys are refusing to fully acceot that we are correct. |
For some reason, I'm getting the idea that this means: "No, because we want you to succumb to our Chewbacca Defense so we can have self-gratification." I've spent a long time away from MFGG and I am somewhat better at debating than I was when I first came. I can see logical fallacies coming from a mile away. Really, you guys are acting like total pricks (well, "were" for most people. Glad you decided to quit.). These arguments have been repeated again and again, and answered. I don't see what the point of all this bickering is. Heck, I'm not even sure if I should have replied to your post. This mindless bickering over things is why I left the forums. I decided to come back for the time being, occasionally giving updates to the project. >_>
