| QUOTE (MechaBowser @ Mar 31 2009, 07:09 PM) | I will address my full and deepest apologies to the MKF team for my fellow MFGGer OniLink10's posts not only here on MFGG but also elsewhere. I believe he does not have a realistic view on how it works.
OniLink10, you're demanding the source code for a game in development. You do not have any kind of right to do that. Yes, you were demanding it. I think you should reconsider your posts - not only in this board but also in others, as seen which have had needed correction. I realize you are pissed over this, but keep in mind that it is a joke - no matter how good/bad it is there was no intentions behind it to hurt anyone. You are creating a big fuzz over nothing.
In a desperate attempt to jump back on topic, I'll applauds you for your good work with the engine that allows easy modifications such as adding a joke character without putting several work days behind it. Keep it up!
edit: let me just add that you are more than welcome to do this kind of pranks again; just remember to hide a text somewhere that it is! |
Listen, since you were banned before he said this, I will repeat it. JudgeSpear stated that when he finished MKFusion, he would most likely release the source as a template for other people's games. Also, I was not demanding for the source, I was asking. I am sorry if I sounded like I was demanding.
I do realize now that the Mickey Mouse Addition was a joke, so I am no longer mad over that. I am still mad, however, that they continue to ignore the Sprite Clashing.

"Awesome! Previously, Mickey Mouse was the only character from Super Mario MF to not make the roster of MKF. Rather than leave this classic character out, I decided to make an exception to the "video game only" rule and put this guy in. It was a successful implementation. Like a trip back in time, now all four original Super Mario MF characters are in MKF!
For MKF, Mickey will be a handicapped character. Obviously, from the video, he cannot use any powerups at all; he simply collects their point values. Originally, Mickey's spritework in Super Mario MF was from the Genesis Castle of Illusion game. Later, I decided to use Mickey's sprites from Capcom's Magical Quest for the SNES. So, in summary, Mickey will be a Mario-type character with an HP meter."
Admittidly it's kind of easy to miss.
Also, we never put quanitity > quality. Obreck just happens to be a master coder, so he pumps out stuff at a quick pace, whether it be enemies or new characters.
In actuality, coding a character takes a LOT of time. I know. I'm currently coding in what will be the last revealed 'secret' character (Samus and Kirby will be the last characters revealed period). I can tell you, the testing and allignments and everything is frustrating to work with. So, it's not like we just throw these characters together and say "ok done.." It takes days just to get the basic physics down before thinking about adding in the other character-specific stuff.
But, whatever. I know people will always have their opinions about MKF that we can't change, and I'll respect that. And I apologize if the MKF community caused any problems. As a sort of good-will offering for MFGG, we'll release a version of the game containing only the first World (Mushroom Kingdom) once it is complete.
On the subject of reducing the game's size, we're working on making as many resources external as possible. Non-common bosses, backgrounds, and sound effects will be made external. And soon we will have a new system for the music. We'll convert all current songs into OGG format, as well as add support for MIDIs (bleh, but it's all some people can have).

I think you really should slow down with making Characters, and focus on upgrading the Sprites so each World has it's own unique style, and reducing the number of areas where the style changes level to level.
Hooray for externalizing Resources, that'll help with Speed and Size, and hooray for OGGs. It's much safer to use OGGs, which are smaller and usually have better Quality than MP3s, and it'll prevent lawsuits.
I really hope that it improves, as this has some great ideas, although the speed is terrible. Just make sure you switch to Game Maker 8 when it comes out, as hopefully, it will add more features, be smaller, AND be faster, because of the C++ Rewrite.

As has been mentioned before, we will release a special version of this game that has only Mario elements in it (the entire first world). The playable characters will include only Mario and Luigi, with Wario as a possible unlockable.
The team is worksmurfing on so many different parts of the game that you may see updates on a Mario level in one corner and a Commander Keen level in another.
I have not been active much on the project because of college work, so even I get surprised about what new developments arise in this project lately.
And to MechaBowser, no offense has been taken. It's easy to get passionate about thsmurfsmurfsmurfsmurfings when they don't go one's way (although I would have not been spittng venom as OniLink10 was). I've done so in the past, so have other members of the MKF team.
And finally, to OniLink, the sprite clashsmurfing issue led to a heated dispute here. I was not a part of it, but I still took the flak for the actions of some of our other members of our community needlessly taksmurfing part of it. I had to apologize to MFGG for the actions of the MKF member's butthurt responses over the fact someone does NOT like MKF, and the issue was settled. I also want to apologize for MONEYMAN's stupid decision to make a braggsmurfing post here. He has been dealt with appropriately on our boards. Please drop the issue and do not open up any more old wounds. Thank you.
