So Nova and I were saying the US elections, are always stretched way too long.

We were discussing this matter on AIM, and we were contrasting it to Canadian federal elections, which manage to take 3 days to debate, final vote, count the votes and inform the media and congress of who's Prime Minister.


It takes US elections 3 days just to debate one issue among only 2 parties, or so it seems. We've got essentially 5 parties of which we have to hear debates from (I say essentially, because no one cares about 2 of the parties).


This could just be because we've got a small population when contrasted to the US.


Either way, any other Canadians on this board agree with the notion of US elections being dragged on too long?

what's really funny is how none of our election process is in the Constitution so basically our election results are against the law :V

Well there is that constitutional clause that basically says "Anything that's not in here that we don't say you can't do is something you can do."

I agree - the US election cycle takes way too long. The candidates getting into the race, debating, the primaries, and THEN the general election.
Heck, I'd go so far as to venture that first-term presidents spend most of their time making sure they get a second-term, instead of actually doing stuff.

Everything began even earlier than normal for this election. The general election isn't until November, but campaigning really began in early 2007.

Unfortunately, that still doesn't make up for the fact that our freedom of speech doesn't even exist. Not to mention, clauses ruin everything, so even though this is a "good" thing, it's still bad.

U.S. politics, now that's actually interesting, because the candidates have TIME to do such important things such as debate, and let people think about who they're going to vote for.
