This topic is posting any concept art you have for new enemies, bosses, characters, locations, items, or whatever. This makes it a good place to see if others like the design instead of going through all the work of making sprites only to find your idea gets rejected. This isn't just for the spriters, though. Programmers, musicians, artists, and anyone else in the project can put there designs here. Should you lack the abilities to sprite an accepted idea, you can ask for someone else to make it for you. Any kind of art will be accepted except sprites. Obviously, you won't need to draw pre-existing characters unless you are changing some aspect of their design, however slight. So, to start things off, I have the only two concept drawings I know of. I'll update this post with links to any art that gets posted. Rival Boss Character Proposal: unnamed miner king guy (Peardian) Rival Boss Character Proposal: Mr. E.O. (Shyguy Grey) Wario & Waluigi (Fawfulhasfury) The Ancient Tablet (Peardian) Recurring Boss Character: Aurian (Dex) NPC: Galboshi (BeezoWeldar) NPC: Ghonf (Project_MK) Boss & Mini-Boss concepts: King Wing, Crusher Chomp, and Necromikoopa (BeezoWeldar) Enemy character: Meta GoombaMini-boss concepts: Magiboo, Magiguy, & Magigoomba (cyberkid) World concept: Ancient Valley & enemies, also Aurian (Peardian) World concept: city world (BeezoWeldar) This post has been edited by Peardian on Apr 2 2008, 08:10 PM

@SGG: No, I'm sorry, I don't. We should probably make like a photobucket account for the project or something. I finally got unlazy motivated enough to make some concept art for the tablet itself. At the top center is the temple, with arrows pointing to it and light radiating out from it. On each side of the temple will be two distinct landmarks, each of which will help one of the Teams find the temple after World 7. The X-like arrangement of the 12 worlds is symmetrical both vertically and horizontally, and also conforms to the conjoined worlds, with the worlds both Teams visit along the center. For the most part, each world icon will have a simple yet symbolic representation of the world with one major landmark. However, the two center worlds (3 & 5) will need a landmark on each side of the icon, so that each Team can reach it without the other half of the tablet. For a neat effect, we could probably fade out the cartoony, scribbly image on the tablet for a solid, more normal (as in, colors, thin outlines, shading, etc.) image of the world as it appears today. This would let us see that the Team is indeed in the right place, but also how it has changed over the years. If you're wondering where World X would go, we could probably have the other half of the tablet be filled in on the world map, and have an amulet icon centered under the temple image.

| QUOTE (Dex @ Mar 21 2008, 10:41 PM) | AND I KNOW THIS IS A SPRITE BUT I DONT HAVE A SCANNER SO THIS IS ALL I CAN SUBMIT IF SOMEONE WOULD KINDLY DRAW CONCEPT ART FOR THIS I WOULD LOVE IT.
Okay, here's another Rival Boss idea.
His name's Aurian. He's a mysterious boss who, like Mario and Wario, is searching for the pieces of the talisman, and has tracked down whichever team to fight them. He could occur more than once. He's a hooded magician whose attacks are powerful and who is fast and smooth and is hard to beat. Still WIP on the sprites, however. More suggested moves would be appreciated. Design is sort of inspired by the Ancient Minister. |
I really like his design. Tomorrow I'll probably draw something up for him when I draw the first world. As for his appearances in the game, looking at him I get this idea: The first time you find him (World 4? World 2?) you happen to walk up on him in wherever you are. He's just sorta standing there motionless, facing the other direction with his face away from the camera (but not facing directly away from the camera). Mario/Wario addresses him in their usual manner, including how they're looking for pieces of an ancient artifact, and the figure slowly turns around to reveal his face (or lack thereof). He states his name and purpose, and that nobody is going to stand in his way, not even two grubby plumbers. He then rises into the air, with some lighting bolts hitting around him (to demonstrate his magical power to the player). One of the bolts strikes in front of Mario & Luigi, causing them to jump back (Luigi could even yelp) and take fighting stances. *BATTLE* The figure, defeated, reasserts that he will have the talisman for himself, and then vanishes stylishly in a method of your choosing. Later, in world 8, you are about half way into the ancient temple when you come across the figure again. This time, he turns around as you walk up and greets you coolly, with something along the lines of "so we meet again". He then goes to claim that it is the perfect timing and raises one of his cape-arms towards the door behind him. The ancient stone door closes behind him and behind the Bros. He rises into the air again, this time with a slightly more showy animation (to demonstrate to the player that his powers have grown) as he exclaims "I will have the talisman!". *ANOTHER BATTLE* This part is really up to you. He basically just dies in whatever way you choose, be it as basic as dissolving into dust or as spectacular as exploding into magical fireworks (a flashier death will probably feel more accomplishing for the player, but don't make it so flashy that it feels like the final boss). The two doors then open up in the typical ancient stone automated door way. Sorry for the wall of text, but I like going into detail.

I say world 2 because I think world 2 should be that forest design (the one that Pucifur made) and I think his cool line in world 8 should be "I was waiting for you Mario but I notice that you have some friends that are coming along so lets have this battle short and quick)
I really want to make the script for the story so bad >.<''

This is a good idea. But should he really have the same text for both the Mario and Wario Bros.? Maybe he should appear in World 2 for the Marios and World 4 for the Warios. And for World 8, only the Mario Bros. will face him while the Wario Bros. will fight some other exclusive boss.

King Wing: A gigantic Beezo who holds a scepter instead of a spear. Every once in a while he'll send out three regular Beezos, who you must jump on to reach his head. Sorta like the Bobo battle from Wario Land. Crusher Chomp: Possible mini-boss for Bowser's World. Leaps around the room in an attempt to crush you. Sometimes it'll fall from the sky and get stuck in the ground, which is when you can jump on it. Also, it has a scar over its eye because that would make it look cool. Necromikoopa: Possible mini-boss for whatever level Lakigeist is going to appear in. Basically, a Dry Bones dressed as a Magikoopa with a scythe. He floats at the top of the screen and fires energy orbs which, when they hit the ground, will transform into an enemy. Sometimes a Bob-Omb will appear, and that's your chance to strike! Toss the Bob-Omb (with good timing) to hurt it. Or if the level is on one of the earlier worlds, the Bob-Omb will be a Koopa Shell (which is easier to control). http://archive.mfgg.net/index.php?sh...c=201847&st=440 This post has been edited by BeezoWeldar on Apr 1 2008, 05:40 PM

@Dex: Normally, I'd have a drawing for you by now, but getting sick wasn't exactly on my schedule. D;
@BeezoWeldar: Of course the text wouldn't be exactly the same. The real script will be refined when we come to that part. As for the varying worlds between games, it seems like it would cause imbalance between the two versions. That's just my thought, though. Also, maybe crop the quote in your post. I'd hate for people to have to scroll through the same wall of text three times. :P
@Ghorf: Okay, but did you have to draw him that large? He's 100 pixels short of being a wallpaper. :P
@King Wing: Pretty cool idea. I'm having a hard time deciding if he sounds more like a boss or mini-boss to me, though. He has potential to be a boss character and I can't imagine him being a mini-boss for some reason, but he seems rather simple for a boss battle... Have you considered giving him a wind attack? He could try to blow Mario/Wario off the stage.
@Crusher Chomp: Looks pretty cool. Though I must say, he sounds more like a full-blown boss to me. :D
@Necromikoopa: Pretty cool as well. He definately looks the part of a ghost-world mini-boss. :3
@BeezoWeldar: Next time you post some art, though, could you host it via Imageshack/Photobucket/etc. instead? Otherwise it can't be viewed while writing replies and allows you greater flexibility when making posts.
@Meta Goomba: Sorry, but, uh, I don't think that idea will get much support. :(
@people making NPCs: Remember, this isn't an RPG, so I can't exactly see many NPC characters making it in, if any at all. That doesn't mean we can't work them in at all, it's just something to keep in mind.
@people in general: Don't forget to include the intended world theme that your boss/mini-boss/NPC is meant to fit in. Even if it could probably be guessed from the design, it's better to be on the safe side and mention it anyway. This hasn't really been a problem yet, but I just wanted to mention it before it does. Future reference and all that.
