OH NO GUYS WATCH OUT GEEK LORD IS GOING TO
--GASP--
DISAGREE WITH US
go jack off somewhere
brawl is disapponting I was looking forward to something like melee but more well-balanced all around, new levels, interesting new items, prettier graphics that's what smashbros.com would have you believe
the implementation leaves much to be desired there are so many ****in' items that are tiny and you can't tell what they are until you pick them up and throw them often enough you don't even see them this includes the screwball attack item, which I have often mistaken for a motion sensor bomb
it is completely unbalanced. the final smashes are cool at first but make themselves too important and several of the characters can completely bypass that "battle to break open the smash ball!" with a single precision special attack (and those are the ones with the most overpowered final smashes, incl. ness/luke, snake)
and I cannot stress this enough pit is the most annoying character for someone to use against you
completely broken. in melee, kirby and jigglypuff could "fly" (up, up, up, up, ...). they were also the "balloon-like" ones that were light and could be knocked far. pit is a humanoid, but can do the same flying maneuver. also his side+b is not only annoying to listen to (sound-effect: NANANANNANANANANANANANANANANAA) but holds the enemy still when they get hit by it. then, while the enemy is being held still by it, the attack lasts longer. doesn't make sense
on smashbros.com they mentioned that players who spam certain moves will notice those moves getting weaker if they're used too often, encouraging players to use a wide range of their character's moveset. I haven't seen this actually happen at all to any sort of noticeable degree
brawl *did* look very pretty, and it did add some interesting stages (and some stupid ones, but not many) and they did do several other things right, but my gut feeling after playing it for a few days has been general disappointment. they've made smash bros. overcomplicated and added too many "oh isn't this over the top and CRAZY!" parts to make it feel like the great game it used to be.

The strength of final smashes aren't balanced with each other, but that's due to advantages other characters have to getting to the ball faster. If you mean compared to normal attacks, that's the point, they're there as a finishing move. You honestly don't need to worry about them if you're good enough since you can just either steal them right away, or beat the crap out of your opponent and knock it out of them.
I couldn't tell what some items were at first, but then I figured out what they all were and it was fine. They weren't too small, it was just during the heat of battle that I couldn't tell.
And man, Pit's side B attack, haha. When we played, one stupid kid just kept using it. Two people kept whining about how cheap it was, and yet it's so easy to get around, and it leaves his defense open while doing it since he can't just cancel out of it right away. Pit is balanced out, it just depends on how you play if you can notice or not. As far as balance goes, it all seemed to be flawless.
Only stage I really didn't like was the Mario Kart one, but that's just because it's irritating to knock people off of.
Maybe when I get it I'll get a better taste, I dunno. Seemed perfect after I played it for the first hour, and the last three hours I spent playing it were amazing.

from what I could tell playing it with a semi-large group of people (and watching them while I was out) ness, lucas, and snake could all break the smash ball with one hit, and they have the best final smashes. I was trying to rationalize earlier today talking to one of my friends that maybe it was the case that the difficulty to break the ball vs. how good the final smash was is how they balanced it, but he pointed those out and I realized that wasn't the case at all
pit's side+b isn't the only thing that's bad about him, but it's particularly annoying (especially the sound effect, hopefully that'll change in the USA version)
maybe I'll have a better idea of what makes the game shine after I get the US version and get to play the 1P adventure, but at this point in time I unfortunately feel that brawl isn't much more than a more complicated version of melee to me

That's like saying you hate this person because he talks wierd. The attack goes as long as you keep on pressing B. And eventually you'll slide out of it.

Not noticable. However, one of my friends was using pit and all he did was use the arrows. Eventually it did around 1-2 damage.
Maybe it's just me, but after playing it for 3 weeks, I love it.

One hit? You sure? I haven't seen a single person break it in just ONE hit, unless they charged their smash move up all the way and somehow hit it. Snake's I would say is pretty unfair, except you can easily dodge it since you know where he's firing, and he runs out of ammo pretty quickly. And Ness and Lucas have the best? No way man, they have some of the worst, haha.

no you turning off the items is gay

same ****. human-oid. has the properties of a human.

well I guess if it's the *only* attack they use it goes into effect I'm not sure what to think about this game mechanic in the first place, I was at first glad that it would nerf the people who spammed some attack but unless that's the only attack they use it obviously doesn't take effect. oh well
| QUOTE | Maybe it's just me, but after playing it for 3 weeks, I love it. |
don't get me wrong, I *like* it, I was just disappointed. I can't love it like I love ssbm and ssb64. it just feels too complicated and over the top
