What? Okay this is just typical opensource ****, hide basic functionality away from the user.

All you need to do is drag the exe of the DOS app onto the exe of DosBox

and BAM it does it all for you

QUOTE (Trasher @ Mar 8 2008, 06:16 AM)
i'm going to bring up a complete lack of need to run wine

it... just... works... something he probably isn't used to

um no ???
fedora installs and runs cleanly out-of-the-box and every program (including games) I install using its package manager works great

and since someone brought up WINE I will point out that certainly it helps to run some commercial games only available for the ms-windows platform
I don't have much first-hand experience with it but the entire half-life/counter-strike series works on it for me and my friends
it's a good stop-gap for if you want to play those necessary windows games like starcraft/WoW/ without the rest of the windows "experience"
QUOTE (Trasher @ Mar 8 2008, 04:21 AM)
name any pc game that

a.) isn't on the unreal engine, or was made on pre-gears of war versions of unreal engine
b.) isn't quake or doom 3
c.) is good

any good pc game? nethack.
also duke3d =(
perhaps you should be more specific?
as far as somewhat recent commercially sold mainstream games go there's ET:QW (do you mean quake 1 or anything in the quake series?)
neverwinter nights, darwinia, cold war
the list goes on, but you said any so there's a few any's

as for as non-commercial and open-source games go
nexuiz
neverball (super empty ball)
vega strike
stepmania, frets on fire
homeworld SDL
sauerbraten
freeciv

That statement is somewhat of a misnomer because as you've said many times in the past, you only run open source software. That makes your software suite radically different from most folks'.

Wine is still far from perfect because its focus is highly mainstream. It still fumbles a bit trying to run my commercial, yet fairly obscure, text editor EditPad Pro. And text editors are a religion so it's not simple 'lol vim/emacs/opensource'. I've tried plenty.

incl. steam/orangebox and proprietary ATi drivers (which I'll be able to get rid of soon, woo)

no you should be coding the games yourself with a programming language you designed yourself running in an OS you programmed yourself on hardware you built yourself from components you manufactured yourself from materials you created yourself from atoms you made yourself from the universe you started yourself
