the gamestop news is about a week old, but yea this thing is gonna sell like friggin crazy.

I allready have about 60 bucks down, this friday i'm trading in my GBA SP for 50 and plopping down 70 to pay it all off and get mario 64 ds.

DS doesnt play games before GBA

Yeah it does

i heard it didnt

Then you heard wrong. It's an official feature.

I also heard it would only play GBA games, and not GBC or GB, but I could be wrong.

Edit: And DS Cartridges of course.

I also heard that you won't be able to play mutiplayer on GBA games. Dunno why though because you could play multiplayer on GB/GBC games on GBA. sad.gif

Probably to keep the GBA alive, and with good reason too, since the systems ARE meant to be separate systems, one branching off with 3D capabilities, and one sticking with 2D. I'm all for it.

*is keeping her SP*

*...then again, she also still has a normal GBA, a GB color and one of the original giant grey brick GBs lying around somewhere, so that's not too surprising*

Unless you only want a single player experience for your GBA games, I wouldn't go trading it it, because you can't do GBA multiplayer with a DS.

i'll get a gameboy player then.

Hehe, man, after I turned on my old OLD Gameboy one day after years of having only used the GBC and GBA... man... I couldn't believe I used to be able to play that thing, it's like driving a car with the windshield covered with fog. But I'm keeping it anyway. XD

No multiplayer, look it up yourself if you like. You either keep your GBA for multiplayer, or get a Gameboy Player or Nintendo DS if you want single player only.

The gameboy player does have multiplayer. I haven't tried it myself, but in the Kirby & the Amazing Mirror manual it says you need either a bunch of gameboys or a bunch of gameboys and a gameboy player to use multiplayer. There's even a gameboy player included in the diagram of how to set up the link cables.

GBPlayer multiplayer works. Tried it out meself =P
But on the subject of links:
The original clunky GB link cable: bleh
The newer one for GBPocket and Color: =D
Infared for GBColor: Neat, but short lived
GBA link: At least alot of the 3rd party companies allow linking GBC and GBA style
VBlink: Was this ever released?
Wireless link: I love it so much! It can lag though
What will the DS link with: NO BODY KNOWSSSS =O

But, I've heard alot that it can't play pre-GBA games too. But, guess I just haveta wait for it's release. And, considering my position in cash, it probably won't be at release ^-^;

I did get to try out my brand-new GBA link cable today on my gameboy player, but just to link Metroid Fusion to Zero Mission to get the bonus gallery. Some sweet pics, it was worth the $5 I paid for the cable. =P

You cannot do multiplayer with the Gameboy Player unless you have a GBA. Yes it has a link port but what do you plan to link to if you don't have something to link to? :P

Couldn't you link it to another Gameboy Player? ...You know, on another Gamecube? ...on another TV set... Ok, almost no one will ever do that, but you COULD, right?

@Rage: The EXT port on the GBA is shaped so you can fit the GBC link cable into it and use it.

Also, the main reason that the DS won't support GB/GBC games is because of cost. It would cost more to add the functionality into the DS (because the GBA has the GBC's z80 chip, allowing backwards compatability). The reasons for the DS not to support GBA multiplayer is because of parts cost (add the EXT port into the DS unit) and the fact that the DS is not the next Game Boy.

But, back on the subject of GB/GBC compatability, it *might* be possible for Nintendo to make an emulator for the DS, so what you would do is plug an emulator cartrige into the DS slot and the GB/GBC cartrige into the GBA slot. People have already made a GB emulator for the GBA, using only the GBA's hardware (and not the z80) to run GB and GBC games.
