Some may have heard off one of my first games called Super Mario Battle. It's a multiplayer game, which involves players to bump blocks and use their contents to wipe out the opponent. I've wanted to make an upgraded version of this game (like I've done from Mariodoom) for quite a while and got to it now.

Hope you like this engine test which features:
- Basic physics, jumping, item carrying and vegetable picking
- Two collectible items, mushroom (Makes Mario big and able to take extra hit without dieing) and mystery (starts a random event like making meteors fall from the sky or decreasing the gravity)
- Enemy obstacles: Goomba, Koopa, Lakitu, Spiny, Bob-omb, Cannon, Thwimp, Thwomp, Drybones and Bullet Bill
- Moving platforms of a few kinds
- Warp pipes
- Stage looping
- Block randomizing

Future plans:
- Gameplay up to four players simultaneously
- Starting menu with customizations
- More enemy obstacles
- More stages and environments
- Network play (very unlikely, however)

Wait a sec, that was your game?
I think I remember that one...

Anyway, I watched the video, will download the engine test later and I have to say it looks fun! I hope you have gamepad support for an enjoyable multiplayer mode!
Can't wait to play the final version.

The first one was kinda fun, but this one looks really fun! Are you planning on making many characters? Or is it just Mario in different colors?

I just checked out the video (and engine test), and this looks like another winner from you, Ultramario. My question is also the same as Soiyeruda's; hopefully you'll definitely consider adding in more Mario series' participants as well as other stages to this project.

Awesome so far. I liked the original version of this game too. Nice variety of weapons and items and stuff.


From my brief trial of it, however, I will mention some issues that came up:

- When that ? block makes the entire world go dark for a while, it goes dark for way too long IMO. It seemed like forever before it let up.

- Once for some reason Mario was in his shell-holding pose while there was nothing in his arms. I don't remember what would have caused that, though.

- When mushrooms come out of blocks, they tend to be drawn after the blocks, making them appear in front of them.


Also I have a question: Why is Mario colored completely red? In my opinion it would be better if he just had his normal colors, but do what you want according to your plans.


With regard to some of the above posts: I personally would be fine if you kept the playable characters to just Mario/Luigi, like in Mario Bros. and in the original version of this, but if not, I will just say that I do not like the idea of overrated* playable chars such as Peach and/or Daisy being present. But again, it's your game, do what you want.

I'll let the characters be just Mario in different colors (green, yellow and blue along with red). Saves me the effort of inserting duplicate sprites.

And I'll look up and fix the points Grant stated.

MegaTailzChao made an example for customizable colours. Maybe you could use a similair system for the characters?
