Graphics or Gameplay?

While you can't neglect graphics, which can serve to enhance the playing experience, I don't need photo-realistic nostril textures to enjoy a game. Katamari was anything but realistic, and I loved every minute of it. Of course, they can't be so blindingly terrible that it prevents you from enjoying the game as well, like a red/blue flashing background with black/white flashing blocks.

Why? I can not play a game with horrible graphics no matter how good it is. It's nice to be able to tell what's going on screen without nasty blurred visuals. This is why I don't particularly like the Wii. Needs HD resolutions, bad. Good art design like Brawl or Galaxy goes to waste on such a small amount of pixels.

Gameplay, hands down. Yes, graphics/presentation counts in a game, but the gameplay itself makes or breaks it.

I always want a game thats perfect. good anatomy, physics and everything like that. If for example, you get hit very hard, you stay up for about 20 seconds, then fall. I hate that.

Graphics are an important factor of a game, indeed.

However, a game with amazing detail, animation, and so on is never good if it has a lack of good gameplay.

Although games with terrible graphics are still considered quite good.

Example being games like Contra, Doom, etc.

People who chose graphics probably own a PS3. Those who chose gameplay probably own a Wii.
