QUOTE
What is America? Some people would tell you it is a landmass bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Canada to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and Mexico to the south. Others would tell you it is a land of contrasts. But one thing nearly everyone can agree on is that what makes America America is Americans. These noble people who live in America go out every day and try to make America the best dang America it can be. And they do this by being Americans. But who is the best American? Someone who lives their life in the service of others? Someone who entertains us and helps us forget our day-to-day troubles? Someone who who sets the course of America on the right track and helps steer us to greater good? A woman? It could be almost anyone who is an American.

I understand that there is a lot of people here who aren't American, and I'm sorry to all of them for making this. 'A Greatest Person Ever' list would just be too hard. However, living in America or not, you can still participate. I'm sure all of you will know most of the people on the list.

Now that I got that over with, let me explain. I am on the search for the greatest American who had ever lived, and you guys are gonna figure that out for me. Each day I will post three to six similar people. Then, you guys send me your two favorites from the list in a PM. The two winners will face off in Round 2. Then. whoever wins that will go to Round 3 and so on. In the end we will end up with only 1 person.

So now, let's begin...

So, we're focusing on sports players from the start? OK.
I honestly wouldn't consider any of 'em "the Greatest American," but who am I (a Canadian) to judge?

It's just a little topic for fun; he stated clearly that each group of people would be similar, so right now you're picking someone to represent professional athletes. Didn't seem that complicated, I guess I forgot to put my "OMG MFGG IS REAL SERIOUS" glasses when I came in here, but last I checked not a one of you was intelligent enough to berate someone for making a topic like this, because you all do the same thing.

On topic, I think the worship of sports in our culture is crap; so I'm withholding a vote on any of those people, expect the same with politicians!

I think it's legitimate to vote for entertainers, and it's interesting to talk about our role models; but I think I tend to lean more towards creative minds than people who are figureheads of anything.

This is probably evidenced in my unending quest to not conform to popular character builds in RPGs :P

Brett Favre is cool and all, but c'mon. Tiger Woods. Best golfer in history.
But I'm pretty sure I remember you saying you're a Packer's fan, so I guess that makes sense.

Heading to Round 2:
user posted imageuser posted image
---------------

Civil Rights Movement

Martin Luther King, Jr.
user posted image
Things to consider: Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the most important people of the civil rights movement. In 1963, he took part in the March for Washington where he gave his "I Have a Dream" speech. Later, in 1964, King was the youngest person to ever receive a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end segregation and racial discrimination. On April 4, 1968, King was assassinated. To honor him, Martin Luther King Day was established as a national holiday in the United States during the 1980s.

Malcom X
user posted image
Things to consider: Malcom X was an American Black Muslim minister and a spokesman for the Nation of Islam. He also founded the Muslim Mosque, Inc. and the Organization of Afro-American Unity. Less than a year later, Malcom X was assassinated in Washington Heights on the first day of National Brotherhood Week.

Rosa Parks
user posted image
Things to consider: Rosa Parks became famous after she refused to obey a bus driver who told her to give up her seat to make room for a white passenger. This action led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which was one of the biggest movements against segregation. Her act made her a legacy worldwide.

Pick your two favorite and then send them to me in a PM.
