binary multiplication can be modeled as several layers of binary addition.

for instance, consider you were multiplying 6 by 9.
6 is 110 in binary.
9 is 1001 in binary.
do it like you do ordinary multiplication! since all the multiplications are by 0 and 1, it's easy. anything times zero is zero. anything times one is itself.
after that, it's simple addition.

observe!
    1001
  x 110
  -------
    0000
   1001.
+ 1001..
---------
  110110

110110 is binary for 54.
indeed, 6*9 = 54.

I read that well thought out post and seeing as it took me a while to grasp binary sums at first I would not be surprised if you have confused the child

... is there any reason i never figured that out

I guess because i was never interested in solving it >:/

I would definately have trial-and-error'd that

well you could just cheat and jump straight to 54 and work back from that
