PM1 is better than PM2

better than wasting FP on attacking bowser for 5 damage when you can just use Watt's normal attack

and you'd think the bigger explosions would do more damage instead of just hitting more

I liked PM1 bosses more, but I liked the locations of PM2

this, dealing 6's before battle is always fun.

PM2 has better battle system, better balancing with partners.

Also, Bombette sucked, even in battle.

Well, Paper Mario 2 is better than Paper Mario because you get to revisit places you have been to after you beat the final boss.

Actually no, in the original it keeps the save just before the final boss, so you can always fight him again and thus can never visit anywhere "after the final boss". Not that it would make any difference anyway. Nothing would change.

Also, I prefer PM1 over PM2 for a few reasons. One mainly being how you actually have to travel across many different places to get to the next area, instead of excessive pipe travel. I mean I know warp pipes are a big thing in Mario, but damn, PM2 way overdid it.
