Let me remind you, that in-game letters from your mother are incredibly weird and have nothing to do with anything. It'd be easy to tell it wasn't your real mother... and on top of that, when you leave for months, the kind of letters that would fill your mailbox would be from neighbors and that community service house rating place.

Unless you were sent letters from a player.

They weren't real letters, they're just from the NPC "mom" (explaining why most of them are pretty much the same)

And I don't think he was SERIOUSLY making fun of her, but probably more of a friendly tease, but because he's so depressed he's thinking otherwise about it.
